Arrow ***Has Anybody Taken AP Government or AP United States History?***

Hey all!

Deciding between those two classes for next year (my junior year), and I'd really appreciate it if anybody has taken either of these classes.

Or, if you've taken the standard (non-AP) version of these classes?

Currently leading toward AP Government right now, but I'd appreciate any help/suggestions!

Thanks!

Took them both. I'm a history buff so I'd go with that. AP Gov't was boring to me.

I took AP US history last year Good times...

I also heard from some friends who took AP Gov (my school didn't offer it) and they said it was a walk in the park.

I took AP US. It's MUCH easier than AP Global. Probably one of the easiest AP classes. However, because of the curve on the APs (or the grading system, not really a curve) all of them are equally difficult to get each grade.

Take every AP class you can take -- you will thank yourself when you go to college with the extra credits.

This ^^^.
Take both. Can't you take on this year and one next year? I would recommend US history first, and then US gov't senior year.

I took AP History freshmen year of HS. Easy if you enjoy history. Government was senior year, while it wasn't bad, it was somewhat boring.

I took AP US when I was a sophomore. Definitely an interesting class, and the free college credits are a big incentive to do well. I'd 100% recommend taking it.

Took both AP tests without taking either class; neither are that difficult.

took both, pretty easy credit. Do it if you have a decent start on the subject matter.

Isn't that only when you pass the AP test at the end of the year?

what if you take an AP class then don't do good enough on the test at the end to get the college credit ? then isn't it kind of a waste or no ?

What happened to taking AP classes because you actually want to challenge yourself and learn more? Or is that a foreign concept to most?

Took them 20 years ago, which doesn't help you now, but after they took my CLEP test and my AP credits into account, I went from a Freshman to a Junior on the registration line (back in the 1990s you had to stand on line to register for classes) at college.

I took that as well as AP Human Anatomy and Physiology.
I liked history over Gov but I learned a ton about our Government and how it works.
Make sure you take the test for the credits to transfer.
In college I would have had to take Bio 101 then Bio 151 Human Ap.
I was able to cut through that and move on and save myself 3 semesters.
GLTY!

I have taken both in college now and I thought both were good. I would say the decision would come down to which teacher you like better. I took AP US history in high school and it was boring and very from the book. In college it was much more interesting because the professor focused on more interesting primary source material. Either way though both are insightful and interesting.

Yeah, its a waste. Not like you sat through the whole year and learned the subject material, which will also help you when you get to college if you take a similar class.

Also a lot of people take the AP classes but skip the tests.

The success rates are
AP Gov
5-13%
4-14%
3-25%
2-24%
1-24%

AP US
5-11%
4-21%
3-21%
2-27%
1-21%

So going off the tests if you want to get a 4 US is easier, if you want a 3 they're about equal.

What kind of grades did you get in global history?

I signed up for ap us next year (going into 11th) and will do ap govt with my favorite teacher in 12th.

Prepare to do a lot of work in ap us however.
