taj - I know nothing about the business of buying a new car (never owned one in my life). But, sounds like Sir Jon has got some pretty solid advice for you. Best of luck.

And, here's hoping that promotion works out for you - best of luck

Not to be a smartass, but how do you deal with hotels?

Yes, my "condition" applies to leftovers as well. I don't eat them either.

Thank you, senor. Jon's advice was insanely helpful, as was the PM I received from a member of the boards that works as a salesman for a Subaru dealership

Strangely enough, hotels don't bother me. You're right, they're technically used, but they aren't my property, and it's not something I'm purchasing. If it's something I am going to own, I must purchase it new.

One time a homeless guy pooped in my S-10 pickup. That says just about all you need to know about me and my perception of anything really.

No leftovers? Dear god. That's when chili is at it's best.

When I make spaghetti sauce, I'll use it again. But the pasta must be fresh.

I will probably be buying my next car in November. Mr. Zinck you want to drive up my way and do my business on my behalf?

Fair enough--I don't have a condition like that, but sometimes hotels bother me. I blame those Dateline exposes back in the 90s with the blacklights

Another strange psychological issue I have, if I don't like the way the company logo looks, I won't buy their product. I don't like the Hyundai logo. I think it has to do with it being an italicized "H." It looks disorderly in my brain.

I guess you all are gaining a bit of access into how strange Tajikey's brain works.

I don't know why you would buy it new but if you must the points here are very true.
Why not buy one 1-2 years old with low miles?
I am a dealer so I know how these things work. If you must have new then the dealer is the way to go and there is not much to add. Make sure they beat each other down. I am talking about 1-15miles on the odo new.

If you don't mind a car 1 year old with 10k miles on it for half the price imo its a much better way to go. I helped my parents get a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country leather, navi, dvd system,14k miles, and all of the other options it could come with for 15.5k which is much less then a new one (at the time 2012 was new).
Again that's JMHO.

Yeah, I knew you had experience with selling cars as well. It's hard to explain, brother, but new is really my only option.

If new is it then I understand.
The only cars I would buy new for myself are exotics like the Bentley.
The warranty's are a must and who the hell wants to pay 500$ for an oil change.
Same goes for the 20k mile Maserati 5,000$ clutch job!
For me its different I really don't care. I would only feel special driving some old school muscle

The only other thing I can offer as a piece of advice is looking at outside dealers. I know some places get "older" inventory and liquidate the cars at a cheaper price. The dealers send some of the "old" inventory to clear notes. This also won't diminish the "value" of other cars on their lots.

Now are you looking for 2014 new or just a new car with 0 miles on it new.
Manheim auctions has some good dealer excess inventory you can look at as a public buyer. They take a 2011-2012 car that's new with 0 miles and will auction it off to other dealers and at least 1x a month to public. Downside is you must pay in full within 48 hours of your win.

Tell them to give their best price. If you like it you will buy it, if not you will walk out and go elsewhere. Makes sure they know there are no second chances or games played.

I will admit I have not yet bought from a dealership (I am currently in the process). Look for the specials. I am looking for a mustang or Dodge Challenger (pure black of course) and I have seen some specials were dealerships will have two cars for $12k off of MSRP.

I saw a couple mustangs for 17,500 brand new with the special but I had to work. If I didn't I would have driven up to Seattle to get it.

You could also call them and charge a credit card for a down payment to make sure you get the car.

Edmunds is good as is Car gurus. Car Gurus, has found me cheaper cars (brand new mustangs, pure black for 18,500) while they are at the horrible dealerships, you can print off the ad and ask another place to match the price.

On a side note, those car sales people aren't too smart. I used (000)000-0000 as my phone number and they tried to call it.

Yeah, Edmunds has treated me quite fairly. Based on the PM conversation I had with the boards resident Subaru salesman, I am getting an offer $2k below invoice, and that offer came as a result of Edmunds. I will check out Car Gurus now, thanks!

Another question.
Are you trading anything in?
If you are make sure you get the lowest price before you tell them about the trade in.

Yessir. I have a 2000 Ford Focus ZTS that's got 150,000 miles and still going strong. It's got plenty of interior and exterior defects, but still runs like a champ.

They are going to lowball the #@#@#@#@ out of that car.
Are any of these places having a promo that will give you 5k on your trade in no matter what it is? I would scope any of those first man.
Like I said don't tell them about your trade in.

Also since its from a dealer watch out for the warranty bs. Most people that sell these make 50-75% on the warranty. ITS A CROCK OF #@#@#@#@. I knew of a guy who was making 1500$ on the 2500$ warranty he sold. They are annoying and persistent. DO NOT FALL INTO THAT TRAP. You should be able to find a solid warranty after the one on your car has passed the limits for 600-1000$.
