My wife and I are moving to Denver next month, so we decided to sell one of the cars. I officially put the ad on Craigslist at midnight last night.
KBB said the car was worth $1900. Edmunds said it was worth $2200. I planned on taking the approach of listing it high and dropping it every few days until it was gone. So, I put it at $4,500 last night, with absolutely no expectation of getting bites at that price. This morning I woke up to 2 voicemails and 3 emails. 2 were lowballs. The 3rd offerred $2500. The 4th came and looked and offerred $3000. The 5th came and bought it for $4000. I sold a car for twice KBB/Edmunds value in about 15 hours. That's gotta be some kind of record, don't ya think? Amazing the power of Craigslist sometimes.

I did that once. I didnt get twice BB but I did get over. I sold a Volvo that booked for 1800 for 2500. Sold within 24hrs of listing it. I didnt even have the title back from registering it in my name and they still bought it. Gotta love craigslist...sometimes.

KBB can be like Beckett sometimes with their pricing, so it's not always crazy to get more. But based on others that are listed on there and autotrader I seemed to be way over what I was going to get. I can understand the Volvo, because the name carries weight too. Got a similar deal when I sold my BMW because the name carries money that KBB doesn't adjust for. But I didn't think I would get the same treatment on a 2000 Acura with 170k miles.

My wife sold a car on Craigs list. She had money deposited and title transferred within 4-5 hours of the phone call. I was surprised at how smooth it went.

side note, when i got divorced i got stuck with our ugly Scion xB (that my ex just had to have, but ended up hating it). We bought it brand new for like $14,000, and I ended up selling it with 100,000 miles on it, 4 years old for $11,000. I sold it the first day i put it on craigslist. If youre in a populated area, there is no better resource than craigslist....
