Default What's with the sudden Pretzel boom?

First it was Sonic:

I tried one of those a few days ago, it was okay.

Then Wendy's:

We went to Wendy's tonight for a big meal in preparation for my surgery in the morning and I must say it was freaking delicious!

Anyone else try either or hear of any other pretzel things going on?

it could be coincidence, or it could be that a few companies that use the same test markets all tried it at the same time.

Columbus Ohio has quite a few test market items that aren't national yet, so perhaps one chain was trying out pretzel stuff and somebody from another company was like "damn, that's good- let's do it too" and voila.

Grant said the pretzel burgers sucked. I'll take a greasy bun over a greasy salty pretzel.

I noticed this too. A hot dog place by me started selling pretzel dogs and burgers awhile back. Then all of a sudden the last month or so everyone is doing it. Kinda weird, but I like them from the hot dog place. Haven't tried sonic or wendys yet.

I had my first pretzel sandwich bun from Cheddar's restaurant, pretty awesome even though I'm not a big fan of pretzels... or popcorn... or crackers for some odd reason.

The pretzel bacon cheese dog from Sonic is alright as long as you get it with no onions.

The Pretzel burger at Wendys was really good, The bun isn't salty at all like someone above said. The sauce they use is delicious, its some kind of bbq or chipotle...maybe even a mix of the two but either way i like it.

I tried the Wendy's Pretzel burger.

Not all that great IMO. Not terrible, just not something I'd order again.

Nothing beats a 1/2 classic from Wendy's (for fast food in my area at least)

Wendy's Pretzel Burger was good - I'd order it again.

Locally we have a ton of spots that offer pretzel buns for sandwiches. In the last week I've had another burger and a pot roast sandwhich on pretzel buns from locally spots.

I love it. Sign me up for a pretzel bun everytime if I have the option.

I could see the pretzel burger at wendy's being good if you've been on an 11 day meth binge and haven't eaten anything.

That greasy, nasty burger is pure poop.

I feel the urge to vomit just by reading this thread.

Seriously, I'd eat a blue waffle before I ate that Wendy's trash again. That is no joke. I wouldn't even wash my face afterwards.

I tried it earlier this week, and paid $7 for a combo with fries and a drink...and it was downright delicious. Best fast food burger I've ever had.

Pretzel buns/rolls hit the trendy gastro pubs 7 or 8 years ago, supermarkets 5 years ago, and so it figures that now they're making the fast food rounds. It's like the whole Avacado thing a few years ago.

Because pretzel buns are delicious! There's a burger place not far from my house that uses pretzel buns and if you get the baconator burger they actually mix up bits of bacon with the ground beef to make the burgers and then still put a few strips on top, stuff the middle with bacon and cheese and it's amazing! Too bad I discovered the place just before I started dieting!

That Wendy's pretzel burger does look like a thing of beauty. I haven't eaten fast food in around 2 years, though.

Haven't eaten the pretzel burger. I have tried the pretzel dogs and they are great.

I just assumed the pretzel thing is a fad, just like how all the chains added something chipotle not that long ago.

I've been eating them for 10 years so they aren't some new thing - and yes I realize a bagel isn't a pretzel (except for a pretzel bagel) - but those bagel dogs at Einsteins are delicious.

Wendys did it last year...pretzel places in malls have been doing it for years. Not really a fad.

is it really a pretzel boom if two items from different fast food places are added to the menus? I didn't even hear about the Wendy's one
