I swear by Micron fine-point pens. Best brand I've ever used.

I use Prismacolor markers, some Prismacolor colored pencils, and Micron pens occasionally for line work. Most of the colored pencils I use I snitched from high school on the last day 15 years ago. I forget what brand they are, but they're still pretty good.

My paints and paint brushes are whatever's cheap or on sale.

Also, check dickblick.com for supplies, I shop with them all the time.

Bic .5mm mechanical pencils, Staedler click erasers, 03 Micron pens, Prismacolor markers... my custom card stock is cougar, printed by Iconix. Before I got custom stock, I used Strathmore blanks. For larger art I draw on whatever box store generic brand printer paper and card stock. Before cards, I used Uniball pens that you could get anywhere. The only reason I stopped is because they bled on too much of the set stock for the detail work I do.

The only real consideration is if it works for you and your style, because buying all the "it" supplies (I'm looking at you, Copic) isn't going to make you a better artist. If you're lucky it'll make some things easier... mostly, it'll just cost you more money. My mom used to say that having all the "proper" supplies might make you feel like a real artist, but a real artist can create art with anything.
