From Newberry (SC) High School
#14 pick in the 1995 MLB draft, Reggie Taylor. Went 3 spots higher than Halladay. Claim to fame is hitting 3 HR's on Mother's Day.

2nd round pick in the 1997 MLB Draft, Travis "Gookie" Dawkins. Won a gold medal at the Sidney Olympics in Baseball, I got to hold the medal when he came to the pep rally at our school the next day.

1st round NFL pick Willie Scott. Played TE.

Got some others that played pro sports.

Here you go, chew on this:

I grew up with a kid who then went to The Governor's Academy in MA where he played basketball with Dan Gadzuric, who then (after UCLA) went to play in NBA for a number of seasons.

Epic, I know.

That's all.

The swimmer with all those gold medals. I always forget we grew up across the street from each other.

My next door neighbor played minor league baseball in the Rangers organization for a few years in the early 80's.

Unfortunately being from Wisconsin there aren't many professional athletes in any of the major sports from here, let alone my high school.

Woodrow Wilson High School (Portland, Oregon) alumni

Kenji Bunch, violist, composer
Boaz Frankel, television personality
Alicia Lagano, actress
Dale Murphy, baseball player
Damon Stoudamire, basketball player
Wayne Twitchell, professional baseball player

Dale was before my time but attented with Stoudamire. Met him a couple times but nothing memorable. School is huge. Grew up in the same hometown and went to the same elementary as Dane and Garth Iorg. That town is very very small (Blue Lake, CA, not even a stop light) but they were long gone before my time. I played many times on the field named after Garth.

Most of ours are football.

Our 2006 football team had Will Middlebrooks at QB and LaMichael James at running back(yes we won the State Championship)

other players from the school.
Willie Davis ( football hofer)
Brandon Jones
Ramos McDonald
Melvin Bunch (gave up Albert Belle's 50 hr in 1996)

There are a few others I cannot think of right off.

I went to school with him, he graduated one year before me. dumb as a rock, FWIW - Olu Babalola (born 1981, class of 2000), professional basketball player for Sheffield Sharks in Britain.[33]

never met him - Mike Catalana, sports director of WHAM-TV in Rochester, New York.[citation needed]

way after me - Jack Crawford (born 1988, class of 2008), professional American football player for the Oakland Raiders.[34]

after me - Neil McPeak, Class of 2005, member of the US Rowing team for the 2012 Summer Olympics who was part of the US Junior National Team which won the World Championships.[35]

this kid was cool and funny and probably 6' tall as a freshmen- Pops Mensah-Bonsu (born 1983, class of 2002), played for the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and the Benetton Treviso and the Toronto Raptors; represented Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics.[36]

basketball coach, also lives in my hometown, and kind of a douche with a little guy complex, nicknamed papa smurf due to his stark white hair and striking features - Paul Rodio (Class of 1974), St. Augustine Prep's head basketball coach who earned his 776th victory in February 2013, making him the winningest coach in South Jersey history.[37]

He graduated before me and was actually a good kid, but kind of into himself - Andrew Sullivan (born 1980, class of 1999), professional basketball player for Dexia Mons-Hainaut in Belgium; represented Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics.[38]

also, the school has it's own Urban Dictionary page, kind of funny if you ask me. Urban Dictionary: St. Augustine Prep

Yes he is! He was a teacher at my high school when I attended, and he is now an elementary school principal in the same school district I work, and one of my friends teaches there

Well, that certainly explains all the free street-side parking and VIP admission into City Hall that you get.......
