I read an article that said that even if the plane had GPS, the only purpose it would serve is to tell the plane where it was, not tell someone else where it was.

I didn't say anything about terrorists. There might have been someone on that plane that was highly important. No demands needed because they already got who they were after.

I watched "Con Air" the other day and "The Jailbird" did

In all seriousness, a lot is not adding up with this. It sounds like incompetence on a lot of parts (airline, reporting, govt).

Too many conspiracy theories here. It seems pretty clear to me that the plane went down in the ocean and they just haven't located it. I find it really hard to believe that in todays world of technology that a plane full of people could be hijacked and taken somewhere "off the grid" and not be noticed. Too many pieces of technology on the plane, plus what the passengers have to make that happen. Not to mention a local village seeing a plane flying over their fields. The plane may have indeed been hijacked, but even if that is the case I believe it is a 99% certainty that it still crashed into the ocean. They may or may not ever find it. The majority of our ocean floors have never been explored, and this plane may be sitting in one of those areas.

Especially since they have been searching on the wrong side of the Malaysian peninsula.

What if a Giant Squid reached up out of the ocean with it's testicles and grabbed the plane out of midair?

That was my point. If the plane was taken over like a few people "think" happened someone somewhere would know about it. A freak accident or a terrorist doing a nosedive into the ocean explains the lack of information about what happened.

Do phones even work 30,000 feet up?

Could it have possibily crashed on an abandoned island with no human life? Just a wild guess.

I think the transponder being turned off is really interesting.

After learning what we know so far, my honest guess is this.....there was some sort of attempted hijacking or terrorist attack (explosion, etc) after departure. This event, whatever it was, results in some of the questionable technical issues (the hijackers possibly turned off certain equipment, it got destroyed, etc) and after the event took place, the pilot(s) attempted to turn the plane around (explaining the 90 degree mid-air turn) and head back in the direction from where they departed since they knew it was the closest airport and/or also probably because they couldn't otherwise determine where other airports were, since the equipment was off/destroyed. Then, after the turn around, the plane either went down because of damage (could explain the so-called eyewitness talking about seeing a plane on fire) or because the terrorists were able to fly it downward in order to kill everyone since their original plan was thwarted.

Far flung, yes, but could certainly explain a variety of the so-called "issues" or odd activity.

Now they are reporting debris back to the East of Malaysia... I must say, the media is probably overjoyed that this story continues to give us twists.
