Default Girl 9 barred from school for shaving head

Girl shaves head to support friend with cancer, gets barred from school | KDVR.com

Dress codes help everyone learn. Didn't Germany try to make everyone look the same 80 years ago?

Reading over their school policy, it says for females: no shaved heads

technically she did break the rules

I do not agree with the school, but rules are there for reasons

What is the reason for that rule? To make sure no one stands out.

Just to be #@#@#@#@#@#@#@s is my guess

I don't think anyone has the right to say how your child should wear their hair unless it's taller than xxx inches or blaze orange/green etc -distracting.

So if a Chemo kid has a shaved/bald head, they're going to suspend them as well? It's a private school, and they can make their own rules.

I do think there should be limits on hair, I had a friend in High School that had Liberty Spikes that were like 14 inches tall - he used Elmers Glue to make his hair stand up. He was suspended until he changed his hair style. HIS HAIR WAS VERY DISTRACTING, COOL, BUT VERY DISTRACTING.

While I agree with the girl's gesture, I also agree with the school's sticking to their rules. It seems they're going about it the right way - she was held out for a day, then admitted back the next while they review the policy. If anything, she got a day off to spend time with her friend.

This attitude has always amused me. If you don't like something, just leave it. Never try to change or improve it.

Hmmm, I had to look up Caprock Academy on the web and saw on their front page a big pie graph stating 88% of their students are white, what's that all about? At the crummy public grade school I went to, no one would even look twice at a kid w/ a shaved head.

Haha great insight. I'm sure you like every rule here. If you don't I'll just tell you to leave!

What happens when you dont obey the rules and are reported?

Your answer will be exactly as to why this girl was booted for a single day from school.

THe article makes mountains out of an ant hill. THey did boot her for a day but then it was back on the table for review. If the school does not serve the values the parents are looking for, then maybe finding another private school that does fit the family values woudl do them better.

No common sense in most schools anymore.

I have no issues with rules being followed. I have issues with that rule.

What's wrong with the rule? If some chick is walking around with a shaved head, people will talk #@#@#@#@. The school is saving themselves from all the "bullying" crap going around these days.

Is the school going to ban kids from being a certain weight as well? They are not saving themselves from bullying in the schools. That will always happen regardless if you have hair or not.

That's neat that you have an issue with the rule, as apparently none of the students parents did when they enrolled their children in the PRIVATE school.

I'm not allowed to have an opinion? Got it, thanks.

The fact that they booted her from school for one day and then decided to review the case there after is a clear indication that maybe there was a communication error.

I mean there could be the possibility that the student came to school with a shaved head without even notifying the admin of why it was done? So the school acted accordingly to the rules it expects the students to follow? Maybe if there was a clear communication as to why the studen shaved their head, the school wouldnt have been so fast to boot her knowing the full reason behind it.

Oh I know, it's just one less reason.

Did Girls 1-8 get in any trouble, or just Girl 9?

The girl and/or her family should have known the rules, and discussed or informed the school about the reasons for shaving her head to avoid a bigger situation.

At the same time, there should be decision-making leeway for policies like that. Then again, the school itself put that policy in place so it's a counter-intuitive expectation. Only until there is publicity does it force them to react and review it.

Kamryn's mom sent an email explaining the situation, but she was told Kamryn couldn't return to school until she grew her hair back or wore a wig.

All the news stories brought her back.
