That's always a hard decision to make. No doubt, you lost a best friend there.

I read this every time this happens or I have to make that decision.

Rest in Peace, Max.

Never is easy, but it is the proper thing to do to ease his passing.

Always remember the good times you had together and know he is pain-free now.

Sorry to hear the news, Nick. That sucks, I've been there. Had to put my 15 year old black lab to sleep when I was 21. Grew up my entire life with him. Dogs are the best, they really are. They are awesome.

You made the right decision, albeit a difficult one. Sometimes you just gotta do what is best.

That's right....not good bye but see you later for sure.

My father and I went to the vet when we put my dog to sleep. Both of us, on the floor of the vet office, holding him while they made the injection. He fell asleep, peacefully, and my dad and I both cried like babies. Damn it wasn't easy, and damn I wish I could see my dude Toby walking around again. It sucks. But, again, they're all off somewhere, running around together, having a blast.

Just about the worst thing I've ever had to do, saying goodbye to a pet. Sorry for your loss. You will see Max again, no doubt.

My sister put down her chihuahua couple days ago, and before that had to take out all of get teeth because of the infection. Her dog lulu, was well over 20 years old as well...

Max looks like he was a very sweet and beautiful dog. My Lucy is 2 and my eyes fill up with tears thinking about having to do that... and it's 15 years (hopefully) down the road. I am not sure I will have the strength to do it but it is so often the right decision.

My condolences. Definitely one of the hardest things to do in life if you're a pet owner.

I was at the vets about 3-4 weeks ago had to put my wife's cat Blackie of 17 years down. I was with her when she got him, we were young and wild then

The hardest part was when we actually got to the vets- my wife dug her feet into the concrete and I basically had to drag her and the cat in. The final minutes I do not ever wish on anyone, it truly is one of the most gut wrenching experiences I've ever witnessed.

I think getting used to your pet not being there anymore- the routines, and just wanting to touch or pet them one more time is the hardest part.

Sorry man, I had to put my lab down 5 years ago when she was 18. Its a tough thing to do. She was completely healthy then all of a sudden had a stroke and couldn't use the back half of her body. It took me a year and a half before I even wanted to get another dog. I ended up adopting a pitbull about 2 years ago. I still think of my lab all the time though. The best way to deal with it is just by remembering all the good times you had him and getting some nice pictures developed to put around the house so he's always there.
RIP Max

Definitely feel for you, Nick. We have three dogs ourselves, and even though they can be brats at times, the moment you experienced today is something I absolutely dread.

Sorry for your loss. I still miss my Chiwinnie that past away almost a year ago. I came home and she was having a grand mal seizure. It never stopped and he died a couple days later at my vets home. He was kind enough to take her to his house and try to help her recover but she didn't. She would go with me everywhere and always had my back. Its unreal how attached a human can get to a dog. I am not gonna lie, I balled when I held her body and still get sad when I think of her.
