Default My problems are all crap

Literally. At our Saint Patrick's Day parade party on Sunday our downstairs toilet/tub/sink all started to back up. Plunging them did no good, as anytime that someone used the upstairs toilet they would backup farther. We closed the bathroom and sealed the room so it wouldn't escape the facility.

Today we had Mr. Rooter come in to snake the drain, problem is they can't get the big equipment into the room with the main drain which was already covered up with a toilet. (extra cost to remove a toilet) So I got an estimate to have them come in and replace a section of pipe in my yard (they will have to remove a wall and my hedges) that is sagging and will then use the super snake from there to eat out a section of pipe beyond the sag that is filled with roots. Estimated cost of repairs.....

$5200. On top of the 500 we paid him today to get the drain to the point where it will at least flow through at all. So, I know what I'm saving for now, I was hoping it would be something more like the new roof we need put on the house. We'll have to look into a homeowners loan if we do both this year I think.

Owning a house is always fun. I needed a new roof less than 6 months after I moved into mine.

One of the downfalls of owning and not renting.

Renting, you just call the landlord and let them deal with it.

Owning, its all on you.

We have had, in the last few years anyway.

A new furnace, a new garage roof and some foundation work done, to the tune of about $14,000.

We owe 6 more years and we are done. Thank God.

I feel for you Corbin. Plumbing problems are the worst and super expensive.

For $5200 ... I would figure out how to fix that sh*t myself. (See what I did there )

#portapotty

what a "stinky" situation, plummers love us who cannot do this type of work.

at least it's freezing again so you have all the green pee and poo in icicle form for another couple of days.

I hated when I owned. My place was a money pit. Renting has been much better.

you can't catch a break huh?

PLEASE get on Craigslist with a specific ad to find a plumber to do this work. So long as the problem in the drain line is not exactly AT the tie-in of your drain and the sewer, any plumber can do this work. I do not know your line depth, but a plumber would be happy to bid this out and snake, dig, and replace as necessary. We had a TOTAL replacement of cast iron to PVC including tie-in by city-approved contractor over a short (40 foot)run for 2000 last summer.

Be sure to see license and insurance before they start work and the money down should be less than half depending on how much equipment might be rented. If you live in VA I'll be right over

^Some great advise.^ Maybe it is different where you live but as someone that owned a construction company for 20 years never hire anyone that needs a deposit. A real company does not need money down in order to finance work being done on your house. If they need money down to be able to rent equipment/pay wages/ect. stay far far away.

I know drainage is different than a water main, but when our main burst the plumber was able to bore a new hole under my flower bed (no trenching) and ran pex for 1500 or so.

Can you refer me to who did that work? I need to replace our Main Drain as there is a crack about 30 feet out from my house. I had it camera'd so I know for a fact it's cracked. You living in Fredericksburg and I am in Rockville basically, I might possibly be able to get the same people to do mine. $2k is a GREAT price.

What a crappy situation you're in.

When I hear stories like this it sorta makes me glad I'm still a loser renter. Yes, I'm 34 and married for 10 years and we still rent.

As said before, there are pros and cons to both!

Wish you the best, poopie.

In recent years the buyers have been losers. Property loses values while property taxes keep rising.

Depends on when you bought your house - in recent years I'd say that buyers were the winners, whereas if you bought 6-12 years ago, you bought at the top and are the big loser. The taxes are ridiculous and should be adjusted every year.

I bought at the absolute bottom in the MD/DC area and in 5 years my house has appreciated A LOT -so much that in a few years I'll probably sell and move to Jon's favorite state Florida and buy a house outright with the profits - That is if I can get my freakin main drain fixed
