Default Huge Vintage Collection Stolen in VT.. Owner Offering Huge reward

I was contacted by the owner and the police that a huge vintage collection was stolen last thursday in Burlington, Vermont. This collection values in the 100's of thousands...Nothing is graded but all in near-mint+ shape and All The big name pre war cards... Example 1987 Allen Ginter set, All the big names besides Wagner t206, Ruth Signed baseball Dated 1930, All big names in Cracker Jack set, Many many cards valued in the thousands.... The owner is offering a 30,000 reward for the person who helps them get this collection back..... We figure the person who stole it is going to move it outside of Vermont.

Keep your eyes out for a collection that would blow your mind!

Maybe let Reed or Steve at Baseball card Exchange know, they view collections like this all the time.

Good...can't stand flat-landers. They look at a tree with multi-colored leaves like a 12 year old looking at his first pair of boobies....

You mean the same county?

The sad thing about a collection like that being stolen would be that the thieves knew exactly what they wanted. If they did know, they could just sell that collection off piece by piece to unknowing fellow collectors.

Wait....did BostonNut just say "boobies"?

Now if only Burlington would break off and become their own state, better yet, their own country...

Think Rice will be joining D1 in football next year? It was proposed at the re-alignment meeting.

That sucks. Do all PSA/BGS graded cards have an associated serial #? If so, it would almost be better if these were graded so they could be more easily tracked/traced. I'm going to assume the person will try to unload/liquidate the cards on an individual basis, or in small lots, but certainly not as a group, in order to avoid detection. This really sucks.

Horrible story ... Hope he gets his cards back ... Also though a horrible description of what is stolen ... Basically we are looking for a man/ woman who worked alone or in a group and stole valuable vintage cards of every star player (pre war) and a Babe Ruth autographed ball that is dated 1930 . Basically every vintage dealer in America, who is not in Vermont, and owns a star player is card is now under suspicion . Any photos of the ball ... How the cards were stored .. Was the ball encased ... Any actual description of cards missing ... Is 1930 dated on the ball ?

I would assume the ball will be the easiest way to spot the collection .. Am I wrong here ??

I agree and this sort of broad description always makes me a bit suspicious.

I hope he had pictures of some of the more valuable cards.

What specific cards by year? Anything that stands out about the cards? A crease in a certain place, a mark on the back...

If somebody stole a few hundred gees worth of my stuff I'd have pictures by the eaches all over every related forum, ESPECIALLY Net54baseball which has some of the foremost experts on pre-war cards around the internet. There is no such post over there yet.

If I were a crook and stole a collection worth $100,000's, I would cool that collection off for 5+ years before letting those cards back into the market- then siphon them off one a time for many years.

Seems the crooks were smart enough to get the collection, they're probably smart enough to fence it slowly as well.

This collection wasn't insured? That in itself is tragic.

If you can get specifics, and not just a general list of 'everything important pre-war, plus a Ruth signed ball' post it over at Net54baseball so the guys that mainly collect that stuff can be on the lookout. Also, most of the big auction houses have reps there so they can be on the lookout, too.

How do you manage to get 100's of thousands of dollars worth of cards stolen?

I mean, was the guy so rich that he just left them out on the dinning room table to look at when he got bored? Someone broke in and had a field day?

This reminds me of that guy on Beckett years back, that had just "Thousands" of dollars worth of cards (Don't remember the exact $ amount), and left them in his back seat of his car when he went into a flea market.

It's one thing to have a card stolen off your table at a show when your not looking. But to lose 100's of Thousands of dollars worth of cards is almost unbelieveable.

School size would be my guess. Tough ending for St. J...thought they would have a shot at Middlebury.
