Default Spring Training: FL or AZ?

Hey guys, Figured this would be a good place to ask the general question of where would you go to Spring Training and why?

Yes, everyone has their favorite team - I went last year to Fort Myers and Tampa for a week, and caught 6 or 7 games, a ton of pictures, a lot of autographs etc etc. But I got pissed at myself for not scheduling enough time AWAY from the stadiums in order to really enjoy myself and have some downtime. The drives between stadiums in FL also kinda sucked. So did getting jammed in by really really oldtimers that couldn't or wouldn't move for the entire game, so I couldn't leave my seat. But the first single damn player I saw closer than through a fence, even on a field, was Carl Yastrzemski, and he signed a ball for me.

I like Red Sox and have fond memories, and I want to go back, spend time at the beach, go fishing, etc but I wonder if the close packed-ness of Arizona's Cactus League would be fun too?

So, as I've already bought some easily-sold on stubhub Red Sox tickets, can someone tell me what I might be missing, or what's really worth seeing/doing in Arizona?

Went to AZ for my first Spring Training this year. At one of the games, I met a group of 5 buddies that go to AZ every year even though all of their personal favorite teams are in FL. They do it because of how easy it is to get around and how close all of the complexes are to each other. As for the area away from baseball, you've got great restaurants, golf, casinos, and a decent downtown area. Traffic wasn't bad at all - it's busy but it's a big city so if you're used to it, no problem. I would go every year if I could.

I've been wanting to go to Spring Training for years, but haven't yet. Think I might look into going to FL this year for the Yanks. The Jays, Phils, and Tigers are all somewhat close so those are possibilities as well.

I am a "season ticket" holder for the Dodgers spring training and I can honestly say it's great, I can't speak about Florida but Arizona I can drive to just about every Spring training facility in less an than an hour. I can hit Camelback, Goodyear, Peoria, Surprise, Maryvale in less than 30 min where I'm located.

I live in Phoenix and I can tell you Spring Training here is a dream. Like a previous poster said, you can drive to any stadium in under an hour. The teams that play on the west side of city get lower attendance, so I'm sure you'd have success with autographs there.

My parents live in the Fort Myers area in Florida and I was there last year for a week during Spring Training. Like others said, it's too far between stadiums. I really like Arizona more in general anyway.

I know from being to Cubs and Reds games that former players do sign frequently for charity donations. Two that I've seen are Fergie Jenkins and George Foster.

The weather is also perfect here in March. Very low chance of weather impacting games, unlike in Florida.

I've been doing Florida Spring Training for the last 5 years and love it. My family has a beach house located right between Jupiter (Marlins and Cardinals share stadium) and Port St. Lucie (Mets). Having a team share the stadium means a game everyday. They also have a huge complex behind the field that you can spend hours watching the minor leaguers play/practice and sometimes the MLB guys. The Nationals are about a 90 minute drive north, and the Braves/Astros about a 90 minute drive Northwest. To cross to the other coast where the Yankees, Phillies, Red Sox etc. are located is at least a 2 hour drive. Never really any traffic though so the drives aren't bad. Plus, who doesn't want to take a day trip to the beaches in Miami and see all those beautiful women in thongs?!?!?!?!?!

the Rangers complex is probably the most fan-accessible one there is during practices.

The Cubs averaged 14,000 for their ST games this year. That is nuts.

Marlins and Cardinals share Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fl. You don't have to drive anywhere and both teams play against tigers, mets, braves, astros, redsox, nationals. The mets are in st lucie about 30 min up 95. Im in Ft lauderdale and the stadium that was the yankees camp(for a long time) then the orioles is 2 miles from my house. orioles moved to west coast few years . I would ride my bike over to avoid the traffic.
