Default The Blowout Forum Everything GAMBLING thead

Not sure if there is another gambling thread that exists but I have yet to find one. Hopefully this will catch on and members will be able to share their big wins, horrible losses and just misses. Also, it will be nice to discuss point spreads, over/under, and the money lines are various events. I assume because of our hobby that most of us are gamblers by nature. All kinds of gambling talk is encouraged from poker to horse racing to card games to slot machines. In 2014 I had a decent year with casino gaming but a horrible year sports betting. I'll get it started with some pics of my slot jackpots from the previous year. Even with all these wins, I was still down about $1500 for the year, which is actually not that bad.

7 years ago I was playing blackjack at Turning Stone in New York. I was up big on the day so I took more of a gamble than usual. I played 2 hands at $300 each. 20 on the first hand and 20 on the second hand, with the dealer showing a 4. Dealer flips the hole card 7, and then draws a face card. SON OF A.......!!!!

I have tons of good winning stories but the losing stories are so much better.

My buddies and I used to go to Moutineer all the time from PA because it was only 18 to gamble there and it was 21 in AC. I remember the bet limit was $5 back in the day and it was the smokiest place on the planet. Also remember, several good strip clubs in the area, don't know if they are still there. I haven't been there in years but I heard it went down hill.

I have a similar story...I hit a taxable jackpot on a slot machine and decided to play some black jack..after 20 minutes or so I was getting boared betting 25 and 50 and basically staying50-100 up or down so I upped the bet I had bet 200 and I was dealt 8 8 and the dealer had a 5 showing....so I split them and another damn 8 shows....so I split them again and wouldn't you freaking know it another 8 in a row...so I split again and get a face card shows so I stay...then a 2 comes giving me 10 and I double and a 9 shows, then I get a 9 and a Q...so that gives me 4 hands 18,19,17,18 and 1000 dollars on the table...

so the dealer has a 5 and the hole card is a 2 for 7 then a 3 comes and then im thinking #@#@#@#@ im done for nope a 4 then hits and dealer has 14 so im feeling better and then a 2 comes off and dealer has 16..so I figured I was in the clear...nope next card is a freaking 5...there goes 80% of my slot machine jackpot in one hand lol

it wasn't my biggest loss ever per hand but the 2000 bet showing off for the old lady (before she was the old lady haha) and the dealer automatically getting blackjack just wasn't as exciting lol

Small compared to some of you..but I placed $20 on the warriors last night. The Spread was 7 and they won by 10 or so. Put down another 20 tonight on Portland, the spread is +3 against Utah. Hopefully they can pull it out!

Damn if you were playing 4 card poker instead of BJ we would be talking about a six figure payout on those four 8s. Either way, great story

Do any of you guys deal with online sites when it comes to sports gambling? They offer 5% better odds than my local guy but I have always been tentative to use them

Online sports betting and Daily Fantasy Sports is what I play every day.

These are money I could have donated to that guy and his sick brother.

I'm heading to Vegas pretty soon. I am not a gambler but will be gambling for the 1st time during this trip. Any tips/advice? I mainly want to play blackjack and slots. Is it true that corner slot machines are the "hot" ones? Any tips, tricks, advice woyld be appreciated

What is your goal of the trip, to have a great time or to win money? There is no truth to the legend that the corner machines are hotter. However, for the best slot and blackjack odds(3/2 on BJ as compared to 6/5), do your gambling on Fremont street. There are a million things to do on the strip but your gambling should be saved for off the strip. My other advice would be to sign up for myvegas.com before you go. In a matter of days, you could get free meals and freeplay. Have fun! I'm jealous. My next vegas trip isn't till August

I was at a casino in WI about a year ago with an ex and and playing a penny machine. She was sitting next to me and we were just talking while I was hitting the buttons. All of a sudden the machine makes a different noise and I hit a bonus game, thinking nothing of it, I just started pressing buttons thinking I would come away with $10 and next thing I knew, the machine went wild and hit $1500.

I still had about $100 of original money I came with so walked over to another penny machine and was betting max which was like $4 and hit a 100 free spin bonus. Unfortunately only ended up with like $50. Never seen so many losing spins on a spin bonus. Needless to say it was a nice little casino trip and helped pay for my move to SC.

front runners in the mud
grey, closing horses on turf

slash out any front runners in the Kentucky Derby
love boxing 4 horses that like to close and run late in longer races at Churchill Downs

whenever Gary Stevens rides a horse trained by Thomas Proctor at a California track, jump on that horse. Stevens is very selective these days

Javier Castellano on the turf is a pretty safe bet long term

I live about 20-30 minutes from both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Not a huge slot player (mainly blackjack) but I did hit $750 my first night at Mohegan, they give you $25 credit on your card when you sign up for there players card and have an AAA card. About $20 into a slot I hit the $750, cashed it and walked out

OK, so here is one of my favorite winning stories. Fallsview Casino Niagara Falls ON playing 1-2 NL Holdem. I get A-A, which normally I don’t get too excited, but I didn’t have a decent hand for hours so I was ready to go wild. I raise to $20 and get 7 callers, so what the hell does everyone else have? Flop comes K-10-A. Gets to me and I raise to $40, and now I get 5 callers???? Turn is another 10. I bet $50 and get 3 callers and a raise of $300 all in. So I call with about $30 short of the total. The other guys call as well because they are committed and only had $20 - $40 left, so they cant fold at this point. We all turn over.

Board:
K-10-A-10-?

Me: A-A
Player #1: 10-10
Player #2: Q-J
Player #3: K-K
Player #4: Nothing he should have stayed in with, like a flush draw or something.

River comes and ACE!

Pulled in roughly a $1200 pot. Wasn’t my biggest ever but was definitely the most exciting. Also not that proud of it because I was beat going in.

No Bad Beat Jackpot

Was at a table of 8 when a 50,000+ Bad Beat progressive hit, collected 2,200 for just being at the table easy money.

It's possible I could be remembering the hole cards wrong. The final hands are correct and I did win on the river. This was almost 10 years ago. But you are right there would have been a bad beat in this case. The board must have had 3 10's.

The few horror stories posted about Blackjack in this thread just further ensure my refusal to play anymore. I've had too many bad beats, and the game goes too fast when you're on a bad run. I've split my hand multiple times only to lose to 21 as well - I don't enjoy that at all.

I also don't play poker. I don't enjoy playing with chumps who don't know how to play. While some may say "easy money" others will agree it's not fun when they get "lucky".

I've been playing a LOT of "Let It Ride" or "3-Card Poker" ... those games are slower, and there's chances to hit BIG on nice hands. With Blackjack, you can only win "so much" depending on your bets. The bonus is always there, but it seems tougher and the game is so much quicker.

For my lifetime playing Blackjack I can say I'm easily in the negative a decent amount.

With Let It Ride I'm at LEAST break-even, if not in the green. And I haven't been able to play it all that much.

I much prefer the small % chance at a HUGE payout.

Roulette is fun, but it's annoying to play when busy and you have to wait for the payouts for people high-rolling at regular tables.

Craps I never learned how to play, but it looks fun and I may try to get into it a bit.

Heading to the casino tomorrow night, ironically, will update with how it turns out!

It's not all that bad now, the casino used to be all smoking, now they made the casino half and half non-smoking. The reason I liked it is because of the older style slots. Every Casino seems to be switching over to the progressive machines. Mountaineer still has a ton of the older penny machines which I enjoy

Best moment in a casino is when I sat down to play Let It Ride with my aunt who loved the game. I had never played it before, but wanted to play with her since we don't hang out all that often. Got the jist of the game down within a few minutes...

After about 20 minutes of playing I was dealt two ten's, and the first community card was a 10. Lo and behold the final card was another 10 and I won $750 on the hand. Talk about a thrill! The whole table went crazy...meanwhile, since I was a newbie at the time, I didn't realize how large of a payout it was

Needless to say it was a fun night.

My favorite games to play are Blackjack (though I do agree, it goes very fast...particularly when losing), Roulette, Poker and Craps which I am just starting to learn.

Usually save my money and only gamble on a good Vegas or Lake Tahoe trip!

It does seem that the older penny machines have a higher payback than the newer ones.

I had a funny experience at Ballys AC. This took place around 2002, 2003ish. I was sitting at the bar at like 4am and all of a sudden I see a bunch of security running past me. I turn to look around and see a person in a cowboy hat urinating in an indoor bush. I come to find out that person was Allen Iverson. The person I spoke to said this was not the first time AI peed in this bush.
