Default All Star Game Fanfest - New York

Has anyone attended this in the past?

How many days is it worth it to attend? 1 day, 2 days?

How many hours? 1/2 day enough or full day needed or 2 hours?

What is the best day to attend? for Autographs? Card Promotions?

Any help or information would be appreciated.

I wish I could help you, I went to the all star game in 2005 but didn't make any fanfest stuff.

I also went to the AAA all star game/hr derby in Toledo in 06. Had a blast.

Yeah! Don't know which days are best though. Primarily for auto's and card promotions, if any.

Not that I have seen.

I am looking for some sort of schedule of signers or appearances or clinic instructors but it doesn't seem to exist.

I might be going myself if I get tickets to the all star game. Since I am a season ticket holder I have a chance at getting some tickets, but I very doubt it.

My fiance got Gwynn on a program when he was at the Toled AAA all star game watching his son. Im pretty sure we have gwynn sr and jr on the same ball to. Sr. was such a dick though because people were bothering him but what do you expect when you come to a smaller town and you sit in the regular seats.

I went up to Tony Gwynn and just said "sir I just want to shake the hand of one of the greatest hitters" and he said "yeah right" I kinda just laughed and went on my way. I was being serious though

Default Fanfest

I went to Fanfest in Pittsburgh 2 years ago...It was a great experience...My advice to you would be to not be in any hurry. There are very long lines for autos. I waited in line for Fergie Jenkins and Bill Matlock, and they were free with the price of admission. Other signers included Harmon Killebrew, Tony Pena, many great former players and HOFers. It was about a 3 hour wait. Take friends because as soon as one group was done signing two more players would be up to sign and you could not get back into line in order to get them because they only sign for an allotted amount of time. If you take kids you can get one for yourself and trade with a friend if they brought a kid. I would recommend maybe your wife, if they are more patient than your child. Also, you can get great young stars autos when the players of the futures game signs autos. They all signed for about 20 minutes each in a different area. Also players like Tony Gwynn and Ryno signed autos for charities they were like $5 and it was a donation. I also found the promos from Highland and McFarlane were easy to get. The card companies offered great promo sets. If you spend $100 in cards get cards 1-3 of Fanfest set. Each day is different players. Be alert, players are all over the place...Like Gary Carter was just walking around...Take plenty of baseballs...In Pittsburgh you were not permitted to take bats. Also Visa did a cool thing where you swiped a credit card you recieved when you walked in the door, and you could win some cool prizes....So what I'm saying is in Pittsburgh the lines were long and it was near chaos at time, so in New York it will be 24/7 chaos so be patient and expect little and you may leave with a gold mine...Also it was pretty easy to find out where the players of the softball game were staying and they wandered a lot and were easy autos...They said Selig was also an awesome auto, I personally never saw him. Hope this helps...

Also just to let you know...MLB is beside the player signing and puts an authentication sticker on each auto...And the players will let you take their picture with them.

I don't know what the chances are that they will be signing for free the exact 2-3 holurs I will be there but if I go I'll try for you, if you want.

I am going to bring a bunch of UD Legends cards just to have them on hand and yankee and mets cards.

I am also going to bring a couple of All-Star Baseballs with me.

And Just in case a nice Auto Book.

But unless I amd there everyday every hour, I doubt I will get anything great.

Also, someone told me to bring some topps and UD cards just in case, there is a promo.

Here is who I can remember that were free autos: Bob Feller, Buck O' Neil, Killebrew, Marichal, Fred Lynn, Mazeroski, Aparicio, Earl Weaver, Andre Dawson, Gaylord Perry, Rollie Fingers, Phil Niekro, and Tommy John. There were a few more free autos but I can't remember them. They are 100% free with paid admission. Two to three signed at a time during their allotted times. So you wait in line for two or three autos. Although Buck O' Neil never showed up for his signing times. I know Ripken Jr., A-Rod, and Jason Bay were doing free clinics with kids at Fan- Fest. A whole bunch of the women who played pro ball, during WWII were there signing at their booth. Women from the pro- fastpitch league had their own booth and were signing. Many of the players like Ryan Howard, Miguel Cabrera, and players who participated in the HR Derby were using the batting cages at fan-fest. They signed a few autos, but it was too hard to get close. Also if you can go to the HR derby, players are awesome about signing. I know Ichiro and a whole bunch of the pitchers were signing before the event started. But as far as autos at fanfest, they should put out a schedule and you should be able to plan it out. I carried an unsigned baseball with me at all times. I came home with about 30 signed baseballs, some single signed others multiple sigs.
