lindros810 01-31-2012 12:40 AM

definitely in.

1. how much is buy-in going to be?? (just trying to plan ahead)
2. would like to see a couple minor league slots added. once they are called up, you have to put them on your regular roster or drop them.
3. planning on keeping this going every year? are we going to have keepers? how many?
4. think it would be easiest to do a "slow" draft. my schedule sucks and if we have guys from all over the country, it will be tough to get everyone together at one time. couchmanagers.com is a very good site for this.

how much the buy in????

trouts2 01-31-2012 09:53 AM

For those new people interested, please PM me your email address and I'll get you on the list.

For the buy-in, we can do something like $25 and split it between 1st - 3rd or something similar. We can definitely add some minor league slots, maybe 2-3 depending on what the majority here wants. In terms of keepers, I'm thinking we can keep all of our minor league players, as well as maybe 4-6 players from the previous season. We can choose to have a draft penalty if you guys decide you want to do that, otherwise there will be no penalty for taking these guys.

And couch managers would be ok with me.

fungi2510 01-31-2012 10:06 AM

I am in. Not sure I am in love with the triples stat doing Head to Head, but if it is a basic one then that is fine.

trouts2 01-31-2012 10:11 AM

nevermind...

SethMurphy 01-31-2012 10:13 AM

yeah if this is going to be a dynasty league, we need to have some minor league or deeper bench

you need to have somewhere to stash the guys like Betances, Harper and Taillon until they are in the big leagues

trouts2 01-31-2012 10:38 AM

how many bench spots do you propose? We can do something like 6 bench for the regular squad and 3 for the minor league players, so 9 total?

maybe 4 bench for the regular players, 5 max, then 4 minor league slots

you could just take the current lineup you have up there and add the 4 minor league positions

YanksBillsFan 01-31-2012 11:07 AM

Thanks for putting this together trout!

Any chance of getting hitting and pitching categories even so there isn't added value on pitching over position spots.

dab282 01-31-2012 11:33 AM

Thanks for running it Trouts, here are my two cents:

Keeper vs Dynasty

A keeper league is a league where we keep a small number of players, dynasty would be closer to half your team. I've been in 2 dynasty leagues where we kept 10 major leaguers and 2 minor leaguers. You have to establish ALL keeper rules prior to a draft.

Minor leaguers to be kept between seasons have to have established guidelines: ie hitter has 150 career MLB AB, pitchers get an innings limit or appearances limit. Also, players who are MLB doing rehab in minor leagues cannot be placed in minor league spots. International signings like Yu Darvish are also not eligible for minor leagues unless they begin their career there (think Aroldis Chapman).

In the league with higher keepers we have more starting spots, I actually designed the 12 team 10 keeper league to reflect a major league roster with 25 active spots and 8 bench spots (didn't go to 40 because the player pool gets too thin).

Scoring:

I personally prefer points as opposed to categories. However, if you want to do categories...

batting:
Hits R 2B 3B HR RBI BB SB AVG

BB should be replaced with OBP and hits should be replaced with 1B as you will get double credit for the other categories (2b,3b,HR).

pitching:
IP H ER BB K W L SV HD ERA WHIP

ER and ERA is redundant, IP is not necessary. Unless you intend on adding more pitching spots, there is also no need to include Holds. Another few decent categories for pitchers are K/9 and K/BB.

However you do the categories, you need to even up pitching and hitting categories.

For points based you are able to give bonuses for things like cycles, grandslams, shutouts, complete games, etc.

The other thing I see is the number of pitching slots, I think it should be at least 8.

Also, daily lineups or weekly lineups?

dab282 01-31-2012 12:11 PM

Oh yeah, as for prize, I like the idea that was floated about maybe everyone ponies up a card of a certain value?

chittychitty844 01-31-2012 12:41 PM

I am definitely in if we have enough people...keeper of dynasty is fine with me...I guess dynasty is the preference but either way is great

Nodie27 01-31-2012 01:03 PM

Can I get in on this? 16 is deep (that's what she said) but should be fun as long as we all stay active.....

7290morint 01-31-2012 01:33 PM

I agree that we have to distinguish whether it's just keeper or dynasty. I'm currently in 1 dynasty league and our rules regarding prospects:

1.) you can pick up anyone not in the majors at anytime but they have to be in your starting lineup.

2.) you can only place them on your bench if they were on your team the previous year or owned by someone else and then dropped.

I personally like those because it prevents people from hoarding so to speak. I'm cool with either way keeper or dynasty. I like the sound of having it reflect a MLB roster with 25 spots, 40 would get way to thin especially with 16 teams.

dab282 01-31-2012 02:44 PM

This might be too out there, but I kicked around the idea before of:

25 man roster, all players must be active with 12/13 hitters and 12/13 pitchers.

No bench, but unlimited DL.

5 minors, if they get called up you have to drop them or dump someone off your roster.

trouts2 01-31-2012 08:29 PM

ok, so currently this is our lineup

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util
SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P
BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

This makes 21 total spots. So for 25 players on a team, we can increase the Bench spots by 4, but make those ONLY for minor league players. The other bench spots are only for current major league players. This way there's no hoarding involved.

I'm up for unlimited DL, I just hate it when half my team is on the DL and I have to drop some of them just to fill up my roster.

I totally forgot what Dynasty meant and Dab hit it on the spot when he stated that in a Dynasty league, you pretty much keep you entire team. In the one I'm in currently, we keep ALL OUR PLAYERS from year to year, so you really have to rebuild your team if it blows.

time for dinner, bbl

If anyone backs out or changes their mind I would be interested! Thanks!

The_Vinman_32 02-02-2012 01:34 PM

will this be a pay league?

trouts2 02-02-2012 04:19 PM

Yes. We're thinking of making this a $20-25 league. Maybe more depending on what people want

JDK16 02-02-2012 05:01 PM

i like idea of everyone one sending one member a $20 SV card and have them hold til season over and maybe split cards 60/30/10 between 1st 2nd and 3rd places

trouts2 02-07-2012 08:08 PM

ok so the ESPN fantasy website is now up and running. I've decided to go with a points systems since I've never done one before and would like to play one, and it seems like many of you like it that way as well. I just need some help with the point set-ups.

I have the same roster setup as mentioned before.
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util
SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P
BN, BN, BN, BN, BN (this is 21 total slots)

and I added in 4 more bench (for a total of 9 bench spots) for our 4 minor league players on our team.

I've never played a point system before, but I made some custom changes to the scoring system and here's what I have it at. I'm open to suggestions so please let me know.

Batting
Singles (1B) 1 Doubles (2B) 2
Triples (3B) 3 Home Runs (HR) 3
Walks (BB) 1 Runs Scored (R) 1
Runs Batted In (RBI) 1 Stolen Bases (SB) 2
Strikeouts (K) -1 Hitting for the Cycle (CYC) 10

Pitching
Innings Pitched (IP) 3 Earned Runs (ER) -1
Wins (W) 5 Saves (SV) 5
Strikeouts (K) 1 Hits Allowed (H) -1
Walks Issued (BB) -1 Holds (HD) 5
Complete Games (CG) 3 No Hitters (NH) 5
Perfect Games (PG) 5

So thats 10 stats for batting, 11 for pitching, but we may want to even things out to make batters and pitchers equal.

I get the option to make divisions if you want to do it that way. Maybe 4 divisions with 4 teams?

Dacubs 02-07-2012 08:55 PM

my only thought is that maybe no hitters and perfect game should be worth more than 5 points...its only a point more than a regular win...and definately not as common...seen leagues where the no hitter is worth 20-25 and the perfect game worth 40-50, because its so rare

also, maybe have the HR worth 4, since single 1, double 2, triple 3...or flip flop triple and HR since triples are rarer

just some thoughts
