FF BB: Should I drop an OF'er to get Armando Gallaraga(SP)???
Vladimir Guerrero
Jay Bruce Magglio Ordonez Shin Soo Choo Nyjer Morgan thanks in advance |
im in a real deep league and i ended up dropping orlando cabrera for Armando becuase i had 2 injured pitchers. it depends on your pitching staff but i say it's worth the pick up. If you do decide to drop someone it should be either Choo or Morgan.

I picked up Galaraga last week so I got a nice stat line from him yesteday. He's got the stuff and tends to get a fair number of strike outs and if the Tigers bats can work I figured he should get some decent run support....but there are also days the Tigers cant his squat, but the lineup is built for runs. We get 10 pts for a win, so that was my major decision for picking him up figuring he'll get 10 wins this year and 100 pts isnt all that bad from a pitcher (given it was either this or try and hope some middle reliever can muster some solid stats).

If you do, the obvious choice to drop would be Morgan. But I'd say Jay Bruce after that. You definitely don't want to drop Choo... he's got very real .300 AVG - 20 HR - 100 Runs - 100 RBI potential and should steal some bases for you too. Basically, Choo WILL put up the numbers that Bruce SHOULD be putting up.

Why is everyone so quick to dismiss Morgan? He's hitting .405, 8 RBI's, 6 Runs, 2 2B & 2 3B. I still say to ride him out while he is hot before you decide to drop him.
2-2 today with a double, triple, run scored and an RBI. |
Morgan is essentially the same kind of fantasy player as Jason Bartlett (or Fred Lewis / Coco Crisp if you'd prefer... just without even their modest HR numbers). If you have a DOMINATING lead in your power stats and need steals bad, he might be useful as he won't bring down your teams AVG. He'll bat around .300 and steal around 20 bases if given enough AB's. But he's got absolutely no power (7 HR total in almost 2000 AB's in the minors) and in the Pirates lineup, he's not likely to produce much for RBI's or Runs in the long term either (maybe 70 R, 35 RBI if he plays regularly all season). So yeah, if your roster has the power numbers to absorb Morgan's lack of production in these categories, and you need the steals, then leave him in there. But I don't really see any reason to keep a guy like him over the potential of a player like Jay Bruce and certainly not over the more proven and well-rounded commodity of Shin Soo Choo.

Drop Bruce he isn't hitting and I don't know if/when he will come around.

I also have Bruce, but I'm hanging on to him. I think he'll eventually come around...I just hope he doesn't wait too much longer.
