Default Dez vs. AJ Keeper League, You Decide!

Ok..... so i'm in a 2 player keeper league (actually a couple) but in my bigger money league I currently have Calvin, Dez, and AJ Green. I've looked over the statistics and trends and everything I have pretty much shows them in a dead heat. I think Dez has more boom or bust value (off field issues) while AJ shows more consistency but less upside due to mediocre qb play. Curious on other peoples thoughts. Chances are whatever player I pick is going to continue to be my combo keeper going forward along with Calvin so this decision has a huge impact moving forward. It's a 12 team standard scoring league with a WR/TE flex spot so you can run 3WR as I did with these three last year. I'm short at RB but the hopes of drafting a rookie RB and having him turn into the nexp AP or Dougie fresh are limited which lends to the importance of this pick.

Shoot your thought or opinions, hopefully someone has something to offer that I haven't heard yet.

AJ if for no other reason that Dez might kill his mother at any point.

I think that Dalton has more room to grow and get better where Romo is pretty much what you see is what you get.

That said, you have a good problem to have and probably won't go wrong with either guy.

I see Dez as a riskier pick due to his possible off the field issues. Both are even on injury concerns.

I would go with AJ Green as I think Dalton will continue to get better.

Sounds like this thread is pro AJ out the gate. haha Guess I shoulda ran a poll. Funny because I just read an interesting article, written of course by a Dallas reporter, that says within the next 3 season Dez will be the premier WR of the NFL, even better then Calvin as he has now officially taken over as the teams go to receiver and centerpiece of their offense. Thoughts?

Dez. He no longer has off the field issues and is focused solely on football. He has that much confidence in himself that when he signed the deal with Jordan, he didn't want to be paid in his first year as he wanted to prove himself worthy to MJ. The reports from camp have been stellar for him, where as AJ has already missed time with an ankle injury. Dez has shown the willingness to play through injuries as well, as he played through back issues and a broken finger that required surgery once the season ended, and still was a top WR.

As Tommy said, you really can't go wrong, but I think Dez has more upside since odds are Dallas is going to be pass happy again this year, as the o-line is already dealing with injury problems to both guard spots.

Dez Bryant - Injury marred Bryant’s rookie season. Inconsistency marked the second. Immaturity colored both. His junior campaign also had a theme — dominance. Powered by a 50/879/10 second half, Bryant put all the questions to rest, surging to a No. 3 overall finish. The talent has always been there, but now so is the focus and indomitable will. Bryant isn’t as imposing as Megatron or as smooth as A.J. Green. He’s more reckless than both. But the only thing that could stop Bryant before was Bryant. He’s solved himself, and in the process become unsolvable for opposing defenses.

AJ Green - In a sport as physical and cerebral as football, prodigies rarely show up and dominate from Day 1, no matter how natural their talent. But then there are players like A.J. Green, who was excellent as a rookie and elite as a sophomore. Now all that stands between him and All Pro status is...nothing. Not even Andy Dalton’s weak arm can rain on Green’s parade. A supremely safe pick.

*I borrowed these breakdowns. Dez was ranked 2nd and AJ 3rd, I'd probably still go with Green.

Dez getting a little love, albeit from a Cowboy fan, hehe. All good, my biggest worry is giving up on Dez due to the off field issues that he seemingly has left behind and missing out on some huge potential seasons whereas I find AJ the "safe" pick as he is more or less a model of consistency and appears to be moving forward.

It's not just Dez's off field stuff, he has also been injury prone. Granted not major injuries, but one's that could easily flare up again. And I'm not sure why you keep saying AJ is the "safe" bet. I'll take 100 catches 1300-1400 yards and double digit td's every year as my first (your second) WR.

Dez upside is the # 1 WR. If you have CJ and Dez you may have the #1 & 2 WRs in your league. I will go with Dez!

"safe" meaning he hasn't had any true injuries or off field distractions. Seems like a sure bet to get 90/1000/9 minimums year in and year out.

AJ Green and its not close, he is the closest to Jerry Rice you will see.

Dez comes out this year and performs perhaps next year I will put more faith in him. I had him last season and traded him, he was doing nothing for me. Then the last 4 games he went off, especially against NO.

I would say AJ because of the consistency you mentioned. That is a nice problem to have though.

Well over the last 9 games I believe Dez went off, he started out very slow the first 4 games of the season. Still looks as though the thread is overwhelmingly AJ

Is there a rule like you can only keep 2 players at work here? If not keep them both. You starting those three immediately offsets your RB weakness. I would not keep a RB over keeping Dez or AJ peroid, too much turnover at the RB position year to year.

If you had to choose because of league rules, would say AJ over Dez

Honestly I don't think its that bad of a decision. I think they are both going to be top 5 WRs in Fantasy for the next 5 or so years. I really don't think you will be disappointed either way. I might lean towards Dez because say what you want about Romo, but he pretty much always puts up solid Fantasy numbers. He has four 4,000 yard passing season and if you take out the year where only played 6 games he has averaged just a hair under 30 TDs the last 5 years.

Yes, the rules constitute 2 keepers from the previous years draft. I have this roster to choose from. CJJ is a lock, then it comes down to Dez or AJ, thus the development of this thread.

Luck
Kaepernick
Bryant
CJJ
CJ2k
Dez
AJ Green

You can't go wrong either way. Both guys are future if not already top 5 WR. Both have smart QB's and both are beasts. Dez finally has his crap together & turned the corner w/ the off field stuff last year. I think he has more upside personally b/c Dallas has to throw the ball more.
