Awful break of 2012 UD All-Time Greats

I opened 18 boxes and have to say that unless I was unusually unlucky, this is probably one to stay away from.

Like last years hoops version, the tins are packed three per inner box with two inner boxes making a case. I opened three sealed cases.

The first case yielded these 6 auto's:

Inner Box 1:
Tyson
Lemieux
Bo Jackson

Inner Box 2:
Kelly Slater
Pete Rose
Pete Rose
What made this even worse is one of the tins with Pete Rose had a Jordan base on top. In every other tin, the card on top signaled the auto you were going to get. Can that be any more cruel? Let's put a Jordan single on top of an auto of a guy that you can get an auto out of $30 Leaf boxes.

I thought, this can't be right and went back for two more cases:

Inner Box 3
Sakic and Maurice Richard cut book - good start but why Sakic? Any link other than they both play Hockey?
Bobby Orr
Richard Petty

Inner Box 4
Lebron James
Bo Jackson
Landon Donovan

Inner Box 5
Tyson and Bo Jackson dual (card was creased so I left at LCS to see if they could help with replacement from UD)
Joe Sakic
Hulk Hogan

Inner Box 6
Kelly Slater
Pete Rose
Pete Rose

Can you imagine opening that 3 boxes for almost a grand. Try having that happen twice.

Base cards are nice and the autos are really nice. There are also no redemptions. However, the punch that hoops had last year (a Jordan every 6 boxes, etc.) clearly is not in this multi-sport product.

You'd think per 6 box case you'd get a Tiger, Jordan, Or Gretzky. However, if that's not possible, that at least a Lebron or two guys like Rice, Barry Sanders, Lemieux, etc...

But, to get Slater, Rose, Rose twice? Ugh...

Most are going on eBay immediately to recoup a very small percentage of my purchase price.

I don't think you did as bad as you described.

You did get a cut auto 1/1 and what i think was a dual all time forces.

I don't even know what to say, other than as long as we keep buying they will see no need to change a thing.
The pictures they use of pete rose makes me cringe and it is almost as if they are mocking us..especially th first one on the left of him playing church league softball and the one on the right where he looks like a 1970's lesbian....

There are only 20 subjects, which seems like you have a higher chance at jordan/woods/gretzky, but those are the top of the top tier for this product unlike the basketball version of this which had other chase cards such as the 9 auto+ booklets which were top chase cards. Overall coallation of cases sucks from the cases I've seen.....

Just watch Chris break 2 cases. It is a joke at 300-350 per box. Period. You can not argue otherwise. Period. Finally thought they pulled a jordan because the main base card was an MJ, since every box is SUPPOsED to contain a hit to match the main base card.. He slid down the base MJ and BOOM.. Pete Rose manufactured letter patch with a crease in the corner.

Once again proving that if you think UD gives one shred of a flying f*** about the consumers then you are wrong... Dead wrong.

UD is becomming overpriced junk that all looks the same,the only really appealing cards are them SPX auto die cuts.$350 a tin is nuts especially for a multi sport product.Why Pete Rose and not Griffey Jr. ???

Pete Rose is the all-time Major League leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053) and outs (10,328). I love Griffey, but he doesn't really come close to Rose.

Albeit disgraced for betting/gambling, Rose's numbers are legit.

That has nothing to do with card values. Griffey>Rose in this hobby.

exactly and when i think of one of the greats (possibly the most talented player i have ever seen play the game) I think of the kid Ken Griffey Jr

when i think of Pete Rose i think of a lying cheater who needs $$$ nobody that UD should have flooded their "high end" $350 product with

If you're talking about Value, which wasn't clear, then you could have named 50 other players instead of Griffey too. I'm just saying Rose isn't a nobody. He's just not popular with everyone.

The main reason behind this is the main reason behind everything done by the manufacturers in this hobby - MONEY! Pete rose autos probably cost 20-25% of what a Griffey auto would cost (and possibly even lower than that). Plus he is more available than griffey is to. Griffey cant even get around to signing stuff for Topps, even stickers. You cant get a piece of paper past Pete's hand without him trying to sign it
