Default SUPER ROUGH Leaf Rookie Retro box break...

Lolo Jones 2012 Topps Olympic auto PSA 10
Ugh... Just bad using a one time product like Topps Olympic autographs for rookie cards is a joke. For all we know there could be Rookie golf, wrestling, ufc, nascar, and other "rcs" just because it's their 1st printed card.

Well I spoke to a lady on the leaf CS line and she gave me Brian Gray's email. Sent a lengthy email to him and he replied back to me that it is a RC. A big fat joke, they shouldn't be pulling this kind of stunt on a $300 product. It's sickening

I would puke if that is what came out of a box of Rookie Retro. I would possibly quit the hobby. Disgusting.

Also made a poll and discussion page here: Is the entire 2012 Topps Olympic set all rookies since it is their 1st official card?

Many 86-87 Fleer Basketball cards are considered RCs but not really RCs. I think the biggest issue here is subject, not RC status

Moral of the story (for anyone reading this).....don't buy this product. If customers stop buying it, then Leaf will get a clue. As long as people like you keep buying it, they'll gladly keep selling you junk.

It is a rookie card. It's her 1st card from a pack, which is a RC. Olympians have to have a RC card at some point.

I would say the sales sheet is a little misleading because it just shows cards from the major sports. But its not any worse than the garbage the other companies put in their products.

Don't forget about this winner

I busted two cases and was very happy with both of them.

This is a high risk-high reward product. Going into it you should know you can pull a $50ish card, how else are they supposed to pay for the cards worth $1k+?

This is a new low.

I remember Brian's first release in 2010 (the days when he released a checklist) had a bit of boxing and golf in it. Not much but a small dose with some rare gems like Ali cards and Jack Nicolaus (sp?) cards.

I could imagine what is in this year's release - the usual golf, boxing...plus UFC, wrestling, Nascar, Poker, Tennis??

I have been a advocate and a supporter of these products since the birth of the product but if he continues to pollute his products - I'm out.

On a secondary note, I hate the genetix cards this year. I loved the prospect autos and sketches.

This year's Retro was a flop in my opinion.

I agree - for the most part.

We can easily say the same things about the junk Panini products. But the matter of the fact is, card companies need to make a profit to have an reason to operate in the future. They sign contracts with players and some are more than others (i.e. Panini with Kobe, compared to any of your run-of-the-mill NBA player). We are paying for that when we purchase a box of Panini. That goes with Leaf, we are paying for the chance (and damn good chances in a perfect world, yes I use that term because some believe cards are held back) to obtain a superfractor, Jordan Rookie, Trout color auto etc.

But, as I stated above, I don't believe with littering a sports product with junk sports like UFC, wrestling and Olympic sports. That to me is uncalled for!

The ROI on these stuff is way better than a box from Panini or Topps, where you can literally get $5 back on a $200 box. This is definitely a high-risk/high-reward when you bust one box. There seems to be one $50-60 card, three $100-200 cards and one case hit $450+ card per case. Sometimes the Leaf Matrix cards can save you too.

That being said... Lolo Jones? Really?

Here's the last couple responses I got from Brian Gray while sending emails:
Quote:
Thanks for the email.. First, thank you for supporting Leaf. I understand your concern, however that card IS indeed a rookie card. Therefore, it fits the qualification of hits in the product. I just wanted to make sure you knew for future that other sports may be present (albeit rare) in rookie retro.
Quote:
the card is a rookie card as she had no other mainstream cards prior to that. I would not consider phelps an RC in that set, as he had other cards in previous releases.. #@Cards can be rookie cards outside of the 4 major sports.. BG Sent from my iPhone 5#@
He did offer me a chance to return the card for a card of the same ebay value but idk bout it

I mean if you want something for your collection, I would send it back. If you just want to sell, throw it on ebay.

As much as people may not like Brian Gray's product ideas and choice of cards for his product, he at least has quality customer service.

Do you call lottery officials when they don't draw your numbers?

Folks, this is a gamble. You win some, you lose some. Welcome to card collecting.

I second the above comment, you did not pay $250 for a $50 card, you paid for a chance for a big hit, like the $4000+ Bird & magic RC recently hit. That card alone is worth the price of 16 chances.

Preach, dd316...

If it is the first time her image or her image/autograph has appeared on a trading card, then that can technically be called her 'rookie' card. It doesn't have to say 'rookie' on it to denote a rookie card. Mickey Mantle's rookie card doesn't say 'rookie' on it. The 'official marked rookie card' is a fairly new trend in the overall history of sports cards.

kakman... exactly, one pays for the CHANCE at a big hit. Whether you pay $50 or $500 for a box of cards, it's still just a game of CHANCE. You could open a case of this crap and get nothing but 'Lolo's' or open one random $80 box of some Topps product and get a cut Babe Ruth or something similar.

If every card in Rookie Retro was worth $250 or more, Leaf would be out of business.

Inserting Lolo in this product but putting graded Jordan and Harper rookies on the sell sheet is what keeps Brian Gray's gold plated yacht gassed up and unicorn steaks on his plate.

Products like this are the reason why I've never bought Leaf and never will...
