Default Will be selling one Empty box of Sports King D for $15.

I have the box with me and I cannot wait to go home and open it up. If anyone need the empty box for that redemption program please let me know and I will save it for you.

Thanks.

Thanks, I'm going to just hold on to it and redeem the card for myself.
Turns out it was not the box that people are looking for but that Redemption box loader that was included in each box.

The only thing that Sportkings will accept for the redemption is the empty box. They will not accept the certificate that came in the box.

Don't throw the box away or you'll be throwing away at least $15 in value.

so, just to be clear, SK just needs the outer paper box cover, NOT the plastic tray inside or the information card? The term "box top" is confusing in this regard...I thought it would be the information card.

That's correct.

If they wanted the information card, that's exactly what they would have said. They are clear when they say "box top". All they want is the top of the box.

I think what's confusing everyone is the use of "Box Toppers" in other products. These are cards on the top of packs inside boxes. These are not to be confused with the "box tops" SK wants for their redemptions. Box tops and box toppers are two different things.

Got it, thanks for the clarification. Yeah, my first reaction was to look for something relatively small in size on top of the cards that you would send in. Plus if you look at some online auctions, they just show the info card and not the box top with Ali, Elway... I think it wouldn't hurt regardless for the info card to say - 'cut out the area with the 3 athletes' or something to that effect...

I have emailed the sellers of those certificates on ebay. Most have either changed their auctions to state "boxes included" or have removed their auctions because they threw their boxes away. A couple however insisted that the certificates are what SK wants. One guy said, "who keeps the empty boxes anyway...Don't bid on my auction". LOL. No problem. I'm not going to bid on worthless pieces of paper. It's a shame too because people are paying well for the empty boxes.

Some of those people selling the information cards probably already either redeemed the box tops or sold the box tops already and are trying to double dip... prey on the uninformed. Not all of the sellers, but I'd bet several are doing exactly that.

Here's a perfect example:

There's a guy selling a lot of 4 certificates on ebay right now:

10 SPORTKINGS SERIES D BOX TOP REDEMPTION LOT OF 4 on eBay.ca (item 390228078521 end time 25-Aug-10 00:22:06 EDT)

I wrote him this:

Good morning,

I just ran across your auction for these 4 box top redemptions. I'm wondering, do you still have the 4 empty boxes that these certificates came in? Sportkings is wanting the "box tops" meaning the top of the empty boxes for the redemption. They won't accept these certificates.

If you still have the boxes, I'm interested in your auction. I promise to not be wasting your time.

Thanks,

Matt

Of which he responds:

Hi Matt,

You are thinking of the VIP redemption program. Unfortunatly I do not have those box tops. This redemption is totally different as you can see by visiting Sportkings Trading Cards.

Thanks,

Bill

***********************************************

I'm confident he just didn't realize that the boxes were what's needed. It's unfortunate too because either he won't make the sale because the boxes have been thrown away, or there will be a very unhappy buyer when they realize those certificates aren't what's needed for the redemption.

I wrote the seller again letting him know that these certificates aren't what's needed. Hopefully he finds some boxes to include with the auction, or he removes the auction altogether. I believe Bill is a good seller and would never hesitate buying anything else from him.

Here's Bill's last response concerning our communication regarding these certificates:

Yikes!!!! You are right. thank you for the info and persistance. I will pull this auction now.

Cheers,

Bill

Talk about a seller with class. Bill is outstanding in my opinion. I feel bad for him that he doesn't have the boxes to go along with the certificates.

On a happy note I ended up selling the empty box to a guy on ebay and he was very happy with it.

And when I have time which I never do I would like to open the other 9 box and sell some more....<two thumbs up>

Modern day empty boxes have never been so easy to sell.

Good luck with you remaining 9. I hope you pull something BIG!
