A guy had a few SK Series D in a 50 cent bargain bin...picked up a few base (Hamilton, Merckx for my Dad, and Mayweather, Jr.). And...this:
It books for $50 and one recently sold on BIN for $17! ![]()

I'm not always a big fan of SK and ITG designs, but the base and minis look great.
As a jockey collector though, I'm biased.

...shows that you still don't know what you're talking about cd7. A more accurate statement would be: Shows that some sellers/dealers have no clue as to the value of these SK mini cards.

Guys, take your pissing match to PMs and out of my thread.
This was meant to be about finding a ridiculously good bargain at a show and not another referendum on Sportkings.

I understand your frustration. My comments are positive towards your card and the company that produced it.

Great find. I enjoy finding steals out of the bargain bins from time-to-time.

This card just last night sold for 22% above "high-book" according to Beckett, and I didn't even bid on it:
2007 SportKings Evel Knievel Daredevil #18 Still Sealed - eBay (item 170591751374 end time Jan-23-11 22:32:39 PST) High-book is $50, and it sold for $61! Three different bidders bid over high BV for it!!! Not bad for a "base card" of a guy that has done nothing recently to command such an increase in value. I mean, he's no Blake Griffin.Investing in SK base and mini cards is a wise choice if you ask me. These cards are only going to keep going up. They're too limited not to, and they contain only the world's best sports figures. It's definitely a set you will wish you owned in the future. This Nicklaus mini the OP picked up for cheap could be an investment that nets hundreds if not thousands of a percent today, let alone in the future.

Wilt Chamberlain - No Bids Tony Gywnn - No Bids there's just too many to list. and the empty boxes are supposedly selling for $15 each - looks like those are crashing down also: 6 box lot - $51 if these cards are "an investment that nets hundreds if not thousands of a percent today, let alone in the future," why aren't you buying them? let me guess the sellers don't know how to sell sportkings. wrong. how about the buyers just don't want the #@#@#@#@ |

I think you missed the point. The base cards typically do not sell that well after the first few weeks but the minis, which I believe the Nicklaus was, sell well for long periods of time. The minis (silver, gold) have different print runs and make the complete sets very difficult to obtain. I'm not a huge SportKings fan but I would venture to guess the minis remain popular and in the future complete sets will be rare and command a premium.
As far as box tops I don't think Wheeler ever said they were selling for $15 outside of the $15 he pays. Did he reference somewhere that tops were selling for $15 that he wasn't buying? |

If I "buy" a Pete Rose in person autograph and ask him to personalize it for me with my name, am I "investing" in his autograph since I paid for it?
