Default Tom Watson -5 leading the British Open

How about that... not bad for a nearly 60 year old man. I'm sure he won't win, but it must feel nice to turn in the best round of your life (in a major ) when you're pushing 60.

I thought Watson had like 7-8 Major Wins before the age of 35? I would have thought one of those performances would have included his best round in a major. Was this his lowest score for a round?

Looked it up and it looks like Watson had a 64 in the 1980 British Open, and two rounds of 65 in the same British Open (1977). Also, of his 8 major wins, 5 of them have been the British Open ('75, '77, '80, '82, '83).

It would be amazing to see him add a 9th major 25+ years after his 8th! I remember hearing a lot about him as a kid, but I never realized how dominating he was early in his career. 8 major wins at the age of 33 is an amazing feat. It just makes Tiger Woods 14 wins at the same age that much more impressive. Now, lets hope Tiger doesn't go winless in a major for the next 26 (and counting) years like Watson did at the same point in their careers.
