I know these cards in high grade are very tough to find.

Wow! I don't follow the sport but that seems like a heck of a sale. I had no idea wrestling got this much attention.

I sold a wrestling card for very close.to that and i know of others that would go much higher. That is the highest i have seen on ebay though

Was it a card from 1982 Wrestling All Stars you sold close to price of this Andre.
I know these cards in PSA holders get more. Competition on set registry has blown up. A PSA 10 Hogan or Andre would probably get close to 5k if one ever got graded that high. Very limited set and has lots issues with centering and corners. With Andre being the top card and cello tight wrapping. Probably will never see one get a PSA 10. That BGS 9.5 would probably have a tough time even crossing into a PSA 9 holder. PSA is much tougher on grading them and centering.

Wow--I had several of those, and all the stars as a kid--now it's a matter of finding them. I'm sure wherever they are they've been untouched since I bought them.

It was actually a non-graded auto card. Makes me feel better about it knowing it was worth that much without a grade haha.

Probably much less. Flair card is easier to find in high grade. PSA 10 has a pop of 4 on it. While Andre card has only two PSA 9.

Any pictures exist of Flair Topps Nitro auto card. How many of those have been known to exist?

PSA over BGS, that cant be right??? Ive seen 9s and 10s on PSA that wouldnt be an 8 on BGS.
Am I wrong here?? I always been told that BGS is far more superior than PSA in grading terms???

bootan, Collectors of this set prefer PSA over BGS and it's not close. dpeck the massive collector of wrestling all stars cards has shown examples of how poor BGS grades them. Crack out BGS 9's and come back PSA 5 and 6 sometimes. If you get one of them in high grade BGS case leave them in them. Highly unlikely they will cross in same grade to PSA. I'll try and find the PSA SMR article on dpeck collection and post it here. Lot a good info on how rare and tough some of these cards are to find in nice high grade shape.

$1175....that it??? I thought it went for more...I would be tempted to pay that much if it went for that these days. If i remember correctly...the card was actually damaged....But either way...its the only time i've seen that card surface...and probably the last time...

pnft17 I still dont know about PSA over BGS. This was an article from the actual PSA site so you know what they are going to say. I'd like to see these examples when comparing the two.
I know a few hardcore Jordan collectors and they swear by BGS, maybe it is different for these particular set of wrestling cards???

I have heard it go both ways but I generally prefer BGS and have felt they were much more harsh than PSA on some stuff I have sent in in the past.

from what ive been reading today and the little research I have done, it seems that the general rule of thumb is PSA for vintage cards and BGS for modern cards.
My next question was when is a card considered vintage?? from what I have read that is anything pre 1985-1990. So...............for these wrestling all star sets from 82-83, PSA is the way to go.

Nice, How many are known to exist.

I remember back a few years ago Flair signed for Donruss Americana I believe. Beckett had a story how it was his first certified auto. They had a contest giving away 10 of them that came in Beckett cases. Anybody remember those. Have checked on occasion to ever see if those Beckett encased Flair Donruss cards every have shown up on Ebay. Don't ever recall seeing a sale on one.

re Flair auto ... right after beckett gave those out i remember seeing 2 winners selling .. 'couldnt resist the promotion/hype beckett gave to them, so they had to sell now' - was (paraphrasing) what they posted in their listings
