1985 O-PEE-CHEE-WWF Randy Savage and Elizabeth....

This is one of the toughest cards I have ever gone after. Most have terrible centering and other issues. Finding one that is centered with sharp corners is extremely tough.

I purchased over 30 sets, a wax box and quite a few loose lots of cards and there are very few of these in really nice condition.

Here is my PSA 10 and one of my favorite cards in my collection. A self subbed card that is extremely tough to find and currently a Pop 1.

pnft17 11-23-2012 11:22 PM

Great card. 1985 OPC series two cards are pretty cool and tough to find in gem mint shape. I like Mania two shots on some of the cards. I remember missing out on Bulldogs PSA 9, wish I had bid higher. Even some of Topps ones can be tough.

dpeck100 11-24-2012 08:17 AM

PSA made a mistake and labeled these from 1985. You can clearly see by many of the pics that they were taken at Wrestlemania II which was on April 7th 1986.

These cards are almost impossible in Gem Mint with only 8 cards so far achieving that grade. Due to the fact that many do not sell for high prices I am sure that has kept the number of cards being submitted down so naturally that number could rise but they are indeed very tough.

I am working on putting together a little sub set within this set of just the base cards. I am not a fan at all of most of the action shots or the skits and so on and won't be submitting those.

dpeck100 11-24-2012 08:40 AM

Here are a few more of the cards from the sets. I have subbed a few myself and purchased a few too.

Nice Andre.

What are the true rookie cards in 1985/86 Topps/OPC cards. Are those Bulldogs and Volkoff first cards in OPC version. Does seem all focus on collectors is in 1982/83 All Stars cards, where it is loaded with first cards of guys. While 85/86 Topps/OPC cards get overlooked and haven't caught one as much in PSA registry. Also helps how rare the 82/83 cards.

WrestlingTradingCards.com - 1985 WWF Pro Wrestling Stars Series 2

There are quite a few rookie cards in this set. The most expensive one would be the Randy Savage of course but there are a number of other one's that were great WWF stars.

There are a few like King Kong Bundy and Jim Neidhart where the cards are 90/10 centering almost every time and I am not sure if a mint set could ever be made.

In the big picture these cards will never be as popular as the Wrestling All Stars nor will any wrestling cards. That set is just a special situation that you can't compete with.

The problem with the Topps and OPC sets is they have so many action shots. One of the things that make the Wrestling All Stars so amazing is every card is of a performer and you don't have so many silly looking cards.

Obviously the print run is dramatically lower then any other popular set of cards from the 80's of any sport and that is a huge driving force behind the prices.

There seems to be more interest from a registry standpoint in the 1985 Topps and there are plenty of cards in that set that are very tough in strong condition. There is plenty of product available from that set so if someone wanted to get serious about putting a great set together they could but the investment costs would be high and you would really need to get a few people chasing it or it would be an expensive proposition with limited cost recovery.

geoffyb 11-24-2012 10:39 PM

I think these cards look 100x better than those all-stars cards. I might be the only wrestling collector who actually can't stand those and cannot see the draw with them.

pnft17 11-24-2012 11:57 PM

Some really nice looking cards in these sets. I like the action shots.

dpeck is Terry Funk and Jimmy Hart cards in OPC really tough to find centered?

dpeck100 11-25-2012 10:02 AM

I would say almost every card from the set is tough to find centered. I have Randy Savage cards that have 0-100 centering and then this one posted above with 50-50.

There are a few cards that are virtually impossible to find centered but I would say generally speaking the Terry Funk and Jimmy Hart can be found with good centering. You might have to buy a bunch of cards but they are not impossible.

Here is an example of one of the skit cards that I think hurt the appeal of this set. There are certainly a few action shots from the Topps and OPC sets that are cool such as the card with Andre and Superfly but as I said before I only have an interest in the base cards.

Geoffyb there are a number of reasons why the Wrestling All Stars are the best set of wrestling cards that exist and always will be. Here are examples from both of these sets of Ricky Steamboat and I think it is quite apparent why one is much more valuable then the other.

Do you own any Wrestling All Stars cards?

golfinglegend67 11-25-2012 12:42 PM

That's an awesome Savage/Elizabeth card, congrats! I have picked up a few raw versions of this card since The Macho Man is my favorite wrestler. I'd love to have at least a PSA 9 some time. Congrats again!

Here the two PSA 9's I have.

I think this is one of the most underrated wrestling cards there is.

Randy Savage was an amazing performer and should be in anyone's top 10 of all time.

Good stuff. How was Jimmy Hart in person signing. Is he good friends with Hogan? I hope he gets his Leaf cards in soon. He is one I want to get in that set.

dpeck100 11-25-2012 09:50 PM

Jimmy Hart was blown away that someone came to the signing with cards of him and especially older one's.

Brooke Hogan and Hulk's new wife Jennifer were dying when they saw the Jimmy Hart cards and commented how young Jimmy was in the Wrestling All Stars card. That picture is from 1974 to 1976 and one of the reasons the cards are so cool.

He was ushering people up to Hulk and quite frankly having the cards for Jimmy to sign slowed me down and in some ways I think annoyed Hogan as he was trying to move the line as fast as he could.

Jimmy was incredibly nice and thrilled when my brother Bill and I made reference to watching him when we were growing up.

I am working on getting more of the older wrestling cards signed and I think they make for great collectibles.

Here are the pics from the signing.

He's going to be signing at MSM in Allentown this weekend.

I wanted to get a photo of him with the Hart Foundation signed, so hopefully I can get over there, then I'll have Bret and Jimmy and just need to track down the Anvil.

The cards don't fit in penny sleves and who wants to pay more than $20 for a measley set of 36 cards - that's what people were thinking 10 years ago.

dpeck100 11-26-2012 08:20 PM

A CU board member had alerted me that he had made a trip to Canada a few months ago and had come across some very nice OPC WWF cards.

I saw the scans and thought there was a very strong chance one of his Randy Savage and Elizabeth cards could be a PSA 10 Gem Mint.

He just contacted me and indeed it was. It will show up on the pop report tomorrow.

Be on the lookout as he is selling the card. It is a stunner.

Thanks Dpeck!
This card will be listed Tomorrow or Friday!! USPS says package due in tomorrow!

Has PSA 10 Macho Liz hit EBay? was just checking 1985 PSA O Pee Chee listing and didn't see it.

IS their really much OPC wax around? I have never seen any. What does legit wax box even sell for. Did it mostly just end up in Canada take it. Was looking at checklist. Is it Uncle Elmer rookie card in it as well.

Here is a sealed box.

I bought one about 18 months ago or so for $150 and it was not worth the price. I want to say each pack only has 7 cards. Unfortunately the top and bottom card were ruined in the box I opened in every pack with one having wax stains and the other gum stains. I did not get any mint cards out of the box.

Your best bet if you are looking for good cards are to buy vending sets which is where both of the PSA 10 Randy Savage cards came from.

It has yet to hit EBAY and he will also be listing a PSA 9 Andre from the set too. Both were Pop 1's but no longer.

pnft17 12-01-2012 04:16 PM

Just got in a OPC PSA 9 Volkoff sings. Has Piper on card, main reason I wanted it.

Was looking at registry sets on it. Only 4 listed. No one even real close to complete set. Would think over time with how tough these cards are compared to Topps set. It could get more interest down line.
