Default 1987 Wonderama test set

I just picked up the sting card in this set. I could have got it for 3 bucks if I checked huskerhaves more often... Instead I paid 50. It's a really hard set to find and its his first card. I'm glad I was able to find it and not get out sniped. The flair and road warriors cards could be good ones out of the set.

Once the 1987 Wonderama cards start getting graded by PSA, the set should really take off. There is high demand for the 1988 Sting cards, and the test set is much rarer.

I agree. Ill send mine to psa just to get it in the slab. There is enough information out there on these so it shouldn't be an issue. The set is definitely rare. It's been a saved search in eBay for close to a year now and this is the first one I have seen. It looks like a batch has just recently surfaced though because huskerhaves has them too. The one I bought might have been one that someone bought from them and flipped it though. Either way I'm happy to get it since his first card.

What's the history on this Wonderama test set--any estimate as to release numbers or how it was distributed?

I haven't seen any estimates on production. All of the info I got is from the below link. It looks like they were only released in the South Carolina are. Just based on how long I've searched for it I would say they are quite limited.

its a cool set. Test sets seem to do well in other sports, and given the number of superstars in this set, I can see no reason why this one would not be the same.

They originally had local distribution is the Myrtle Beach area. Very few of those cards still exist.

113 factory sets were produced, most of which were released on ebay around late 2002.

Only 113 sets were produced? Wow.. That's much lower than I thought.

Yes, only 113, and most were initially sold over 10 years ago. The cards came with a certificate which #'d the sets. Singles are tough to find. I'd be surprised if any complete sets ever show up for sale.

The 1987 test set was originally sold in packs, but I doubt any still exist.

Has PSA not graded any of these cards, or am I just missing it on the pop report? Seems odd that PSA hasn't slabbed any.

The fact that they haven't should excite you. That means none have been submitted.

I don't think there is any reason they wouldn't accept the 1987 cards.

I'd include a note just to make sure they don't label it 1988 by mistake. (the fronts are identical, but the "kraft" backs are quite distinct)

It should be pretty clear that they are different and there is good information on the Wrestling Trading Cards site.

The reason there have not been any graded is rarity. They don't surface much.

Interesting given the amount of grading of different sets we all discuss on here--I would imagine we won't have to wait long now before some surface

Perhaps true. I don't own any of the cards and put in an order to Husker Havs site but he is gone. I am waiting to see if my order fills.

Its like waiting for lottery numbers seeing if an order fills on that site . . . talk about excitement. He does have good stuff and is very fair to deal with.

The only problem with his cards is they are generally not in very strong condition and are in no shape for grading.

He is indeed easy to deal with and I have purchased from him many times.

I got the cards in the mail recently I purchased from HuskerHavs site.

This is the only one that is potentially gradable.

These are cool.

Great card to get graded. Singles from the test set rarely come up for sale anywhere, and sets are simply impossible to find.

The scan is misleading. There is an issue with the lower right corner on the back side.

That being said it is still a great card.
