Default 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A 2013 PSA Set Registry Winner!!!

I am really excited that my best 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A set won in its category for Best Misc Sports Modern in the PSA set registry.

This is the first time a wrestling set has ever been honored.

In just the past few years wrestling cards have gained more recognition and I think that trend is set to continue.

If you have a second check out the links below to see my set and the other award winners.

I am very impressed, it takes a lot for PSA to recognize a set, I mean they literally have over 83,000 registered sets and for them to choose a wrestling set is very impressive. Also keep in mind the set isn't that big, 36 cards? that just goes to show that they recognize how tough it is to build the 82 all star set and the rarity of the cards. Its not some mass produced and highly hoarded baseball card set from the 80's (sorry baseball fans) it takes true skill and dedication to build a set like that, congratulation's hopefully this paves the way for other wrestling sets (85 topps ect....)

Yes my wife Michelle and I are heading out there for a few days. It should be a good time.

I am thinking about bringing my BGS 9.5 1994 Bumble Bee Dwayne Johnson and doing a one day submission to see if it will cross over to a PSA 10.

I am very excited to add this to my collection. Andre The Giant and Dusty Rhodes won the NWA Tri State Tag Team Championship Title in a tag team tournament on Dec 25th 1978. They never defended the title and The Spoiler took Andre's place. This is the photo used for Andre The Giant's 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A card. This photo appears on the cover of other Wrestling News publications but what makes this even more special is that this program comes from one of the the Mid South Spectacular shows from April 1981.

It can now be determined that the photo used for Andre's card was on Christmas night 1978.

I picked up a sealed set of the 1982 A off EBAY and it came in the mail today. It was in much worse shape then I could tell from the scan and since the price was reasonable I decided to rip away.

Most of the cards had corner damage but fortunately the Hogan and Flair were pretty good. The Andre was brutal!

There might be a few that are gradable other then these but not many.

This really reinforces why this set is so tough in high grade. I purchased another sealed set earlier this year where the first few cards are damaged and have resisted the temptation to open it.

I may break down and bust it open soon after seeing where the Hogan and Flair are in the sealed set.

Those 3 look good. Solid PSA 8, good shot at 8.5 or 9?
Easy BGS 9 or maybe 9.5's

I know PSA grades packs and sealed cello packs.
I wonder if they grade sealed Wrestling All Stars sets from 1982-83. Would you consider sending in sealed set for grading if they did.

It is my understanding they won't grade one of the sealed packs. They might some day.

The Hogan is a little misleading in the scans. Corners are little touched. I think a very strong PSA 7 for sure. Maybe higher.

The Flair is OC so it could still get a PSA 8.

The Bruno is strong. The lower right corner holds it back. Definitely an 8 for sure I would think and maybe higher with strong centering.

There are a few others that are decent but many have corners that would drop them to a PSA 5 or lower.

Quite frankly I had high hopes for the set and when I saw it I was concerned. I would consider this a victory.

The Andre might grade a PSA 3 LOL. I will post a scan shortly. Every time I see how beat up the Andre comes it makes me happy I ponied up and bought my PSA 9.

Here is an example of why the Andre is so tough. This card has a horrible surface and damaged corners.

Compared to the BGS 7.5 on EBAY now it looks like a 12.

Andre does look rough on corners.

On series B is Martel on top of sets. His is also tough in high grade.

Yes the Rick Martel is on top. I would argue that card is tougher then Andre.

I have only purchased one raw copy worth grading and blown it on a few thinking they were better from the scan.

At the current time there is one PSA 8 and one PSA 9.

The one I have at PSA now I think has a shot at an 8.

There are a few nice one's in BGS slabs too.

Well I broke down and opened my final sealed pack. I knew a few of the cards were damaged. I managed to keep this sealed for six months.

What a disaster.

Every single card has a smashed upper left corner. This one hurts.
