Default SMR Guide on Parkhurst Wrestling

Just out of idle curiosity checked this thing out as its obviously one of the few sets most of us don't have from our childhood in any condition. (I would say none of us but maybe there's some 70 year old on the site). Where do they come up with pricing on these? This is one set Id invest in in high grade because frankly I never see any high grade cards on Ebay yet the SMR has pricing for 9's for every card as though there were 100s of them. What is the actual going rate for 9's from this set? I didn't check the population report but there can't be that many.

The SMR has not caught up to the actual value of these cards. It because they don't pop up in high grade. The people that own them don't sell them. Its a limited market. You would have to find a high grade set that is ungraded and sub it yourself. That would be your best bet.

PSA 4s and PSA 5s are acceptable for this set to be honest and I have some raw ones too laying around....if you look at the registry you can look at my sets. There is only one PSA 9 to date so pricing on that one is a crapshoot. A PSA 7 is a very strong card for this issue and you will pay more than SMR to get one. If anyone wants cards from this set, send me a PM or reply through this thread. I only have desire for a master set of the 1954s with biography backs and lucky premium backs and one 1955 set.

Well now looking theres only 1 PSA 9 card period from either set in the population report of ANY card so now I really would like to know how they made up the SMR. An SMR for cards that dont exist???? So the 1 PSA 9 is yours? Did you sub that yourself? If so, where did you get the card from out of curiosity?? Without knowing I would have to think a PSA 9 RC of either Gorgeous George, Buddy Rogers, or Lou Thesz would top 5 grand if sold today at auction and if it got into a bidding war maybe 10. I think the Nagurski has the current record no?

For many sets the SMR is just an estimate. The Parkhurst set is one of them.

The highest priced sale from the set is the Bronko Nagurski PSA 8 which sold for $1,000 a few months ago.

Joe is very conservative on pricing in most cases when there isn't sales data or when it is from auction and it is a one time sale.

The SMR report is just generized pricing based on a few sales.

PSA 4/5/6 are the baseline average grades. PSA 7+ should command healthy premiums at auction. Lucky Premiums should also sell at higher prices, but not many graded yet.

The more popular wrestlers will have a few more cards graded than general commons. (Thesz, Rocca, George, Gagne, Carnera, to name a few)

I know that I have subbed more than anyone on these 1954s...I did not sub the PSA 9 though, the card stock prevents many cards from grading high as well as off centering, wax stains, etc....

I put up a Parkhurst wrestling set on ebay this morning and would be willing to drop the price for board members here to $300, that is $4 per card and includes the Gorgeous George, Lou Thesz, etc.
