Default Fake British Bulldog WCW Topps Auto On Ebay

1998 Topps WCW British Bulldog Autograph Very RARE Short Print Davey Boy Smith | eBay

I can't believe it actually has bids. The logo is way off in the corner and the signature is laughable.

also just so you know many of these cards were signed by lower end wrestlers in the locker room and not the actual star so do your homework a bit better

I am not expert on these cards but I will say the first thing that came to mind when I looked at it was fake. I tried searching on completed auctions for the one that sold recently and it is no longer up. The signature if I recall looks much different.

Obviously at the price the prior one sold for I could see these being forged. That being said is it known that fake copies are floating around?

im sure there are tons of these unsigned out there and like I said I know for a fact that many of these wrestlers didn't sign their own cards and others signed them for them and I would not be surprised a bit if its not actually signed by Davey boy smith but I know the card itself was the ones topps sent to wcw and were all around the locker room in that era and I stand behind my card because I have 2 and know the wcw agent that had several different ones from both sets

Thanks for the quick response. Good luck with your card and hopefully it brings a strong price.

Your story is why I think these ultra rare auto's from this set are risky. High prices bring out supply and the idea that there are only a few of these seems unrealistic to me.

I think there are thousands of these out there and they will indeed flood the market

I am a huge collector of the WCW/NWO topps auto set, i personally own multiple high end PSA graded cards from the set and 99% of the autos from this set are legit. Look at some guys like Savage and Bret Hart autos on other stuff compared to their cards and its dead on. If those guys had their autos forged it was by people who know what their doing, not some low level jobbers trying to make a name for themselves. The only auto card I have seen that was way off have been the Bulldog cards. His PSA certified autos are not even close to the card that is listed now or the card that sold for 4K a few weeks ago. Look at scott steiners uncirc card, that signature is dead on to how he normally signs. The Bulldog auto is so far off its funny. I would buy the bulldog card just because it wasn't put in packs, but not because I believe the auto is legit.

So what cards are known to have fake autos on them?

Here's the card on auction, and 2 other cards for comparison:

Ink type is different, and signature is different when compared to the others.

Cropping is far to close to the logo. If it was simply cropped wrong, the the left side of the card should be cropped farther from the name.

I don't know if it is fake or not, but a card such as this should be authenticated/graded before sold.

On auction:

The card is fake. I've been collecting these for years. On the back of the card half his head is cropped off.
They have taken a snap shot of the card and re pasted it on another. They did a great job in printing them out though.
The auto is laughable.
Feel sorry for the poor bloke who ends up with it. Maybe the seller himself doesn't know it's fake.
Even in the front the top of his head is too close to the edge of the card.
Good fake.

The back is also cropped to far inward on the right, just like the front.

If it was real, the back cropping would have resulted in a crop in the opposite direction, so that the face would not be cropped at all.

Thanks for doing the work of posting those different photos. the card is way off, I have never owned a WCW topps auto card from that set that was off center. If it was legit and you could see other cards that are off center than it could have a case for being legit but, I personally cannot say I have seen another that is that off center.

The left side of the card is not affected by the cropping, so it is not just a centering issue.

I believe the card was printed slightly larger than the scan - that is why both the front and the back are both cropped off on the right hand sides in order to make the card the same size as an authentic card.

yes this is want a I meant by snap shot, they did a good job and getting it printed on a card the same size as a regular card, i have a pic of that.

Good luck on that grading. It will come back as altered or not graded at all most likely.

Send it to PSA, BGS will grade anything. PSA is the only company I would trust.
