Default 1969-1972 Japanese Gong Mini Bromide Cards

Steve's website has the first 9 cards listed for this set.

1960-1969 Wrestling Cards (Vintage Wrestling Card Archive)

This set started with the Special Supplement issue of Gong Magazine from December 1969. They were issued 8 cards to an issue so there might have been something special with this first issue because it seems there were nine cards. I think there were a few issues through the years that didn't have any cards issued. I found three more issues with cards in them: sets #13, #15, #26.

Cards are double sided meaning that one wrestler appears on each side. The measure approximately 3" x 5" and are black and white images of the wrestlers. They are printed on thin paper stock.

Here is an image of one - Fritz Von Erich:

I have a few of these. These are neat cards. Wish there was a complete checklist.

Do you know what issue yours are from? Are yours double-sided?

It's one of my long term projects is to work a checklist.

There is a small chance there'd be an Andre in one of the 1972 issues.

I think a few from the first issue + some that are double sided, but haven't a clue where they are now. Didn't know anything about them until the 1st Gong issue sold with them.

The big downside to this set is the larger size and thin paper stock.

I think these would look awesome graded.

Seems tough (and pricey) to find the magazines, let alone magazines that still have the cards.

Price is the big factor. For$500 I could only get about a 1/3 of the set.

Andre started in Japan in 1970 as "Monster Roussimoff", so it might be possible that any of the unchecklisted issues could have a card.

Hopefully we'll find out over the next year or so. Looking forward to the challenge of working this checklist.

Thanks to both X-titles and WTC.com for adding this checklist to their websites. I'm still working at getting more of these.

If you want the line on each card do you have to ruin one card to get the one you want? I'd like to see an image of the uncut sheet if that could be provided.

There is no sheet. Cards are single, binded together.

All the cards I have come in sheets. 2 double-sided cards per sheet.

It would be tricky to cut. Only one card would get the dotted line. I'd have to check to see if the lines on the front and back line up too.

The dotted lines don't match up exactly on the front and back of the sheet unfortunately. They are about a mm or so off.

First billed as Monster Roussimoff in 1970 in Japan.

First used Andre the Giant in 1972 under Vern Gagne's AWA.

Also billed as Jean Ferre until 1973, I think. The are allso other variations of ring name.
