Default 1982 Japanese Puroresu Cosmos Vending Set

Here is an interesting set I've seen parts of in the past, but was able to snag a few unopened packs and nail it down to a 5-card set. These cards were issued in 5-card packs in Cosmos toy vending machines. We all remember popping nickels, dimes and quarters into these things as kids...Japanese kids did/do the same thing. It looks like this set was printed at the end of 1982 according to the belts they are holding:

Ric Flair - NWA World Heavyweight Championship
Tatsumi Fujinami - WWF International Heavyweight Championship
Tiger Mask - WWF Junior Heavyweight Championship
Tiger Mask - Face Grab
Antonio Inoki

Sumo, do you think Cosmos produced the cards, or that they were just distributed in the machines?

That is a good question and hoping to confirm that when I get the cards...hopefully they have something written on the back of the cards. Cosmos did produce a lot of toys for their machines....there are a lot of collectors of the toys out there, but I honestly don't know for certain. Cosmos did produce the circle menko puroresu cards of the early 1980s. I'll post a few scans of those too.

I was wondering about the round Menko. I bought the Hogan and Flair a while ago.

Do you have a list? I think there are 10 or so in the set. We need a checklist for those.

Cosmos did indeed produce the round menko. I think we can get a pretty good checklist started.

List so far:

- Samuri statue
- Stan Hansen?
- Great Kabuki
- Hulk Hogan
- Inoki
- Tiger Mask

also in set:
- Ric Flair
- Samuri statue/Great Kabuki

I think these came in 2 sizes: larger Menko pad(?), and smaller Menko disc.

Is that a year on the box?

I have a large Stan Hanson from this set. I think it would look sweet signed as would any of the other one's.

The pic is from a cosmos toy web page. Don't know the year. Looks like 1982ish.

Here are a couple of more that I was able to pick up. The size is about 2.25" in diameter.

Are these the large or small size?

Here are also some hi-res scans of the Vending Set I was able to pick up. Backs are blank and the cards measure about 2.5" x 1.5". I picked up a total of 8 sets, 7 unopened. I have a few extra sets...PM me if interested.

Hey guys, my partner and co-founder of WrestlingTradingCards.com (Tony) was going through his personal collection and found a 6th card belonging to the 1982 Cosmos Vending Machine set. It's Hulk Hogan. I supplied a an image for you all to see:

Keep in mind, the rounded edged were trimmed off when I cropped & edited the card for WTC.

The Hulk Hogan card doesn't have round corners like the other cards, so I think it may not be from the same set.
