Default Awesome WWE bootleg cards

I live fairly close to the border of Mexico, and I grew up a 5-minute walk from Mexico (back when it was safe to walk across the border). Of the many benefits of growing up in that unique culture, one of my favorites was all of the purely awesome bootleg products that made their way into the local mercados... especially wrestling since that is huge on the border.

Here is my latest find. The box was a little battered, but it was printed on foilboard AND embossed, which was impressive, and featured WWE and Topps logos. Also, Chris Benoit.

The cards inside are smaller than standard size - about 2 1/4" x 3 1/4". They each feature some sort of game scoring number system along the top and all feature the same back - a promo for the 2006 WWE Insider set, even though the box states "2010" on it. The cards are of a cheap stock, similar to all cards that come across the border.

Here are some of the better typos. Mrrk Henry's misspelling. Hulk "Triple H" Hogan. That's Reymysterio - one word, thank you. "Stone", just Stone. Finally, Latino Heat.

Thanks for looking. I hope you enjoyed them.

Interesting! My son bought some bootleg Pokemon cards in CA once. I was surprised at the quality. For a $1 a box we had fun admiring the relatively good quality.

Those were first produced in 2006 and discontinued a couple years ago, and have had a total of 13 different series (each series has a change in box design), usually 72 cards per set, and produced about twice per year. The UPC code indicated they are produced by Konami, one of the major Japanese card companies, which produces other similar packaged sets (Pokemon, Ben-10, etc.). The backs promote Topps Insider WWE cards of the same design, which seems to indicate Konami has a licensing agreement with Topps (at least initially when the cards were first published). The later series has a metal card inserted into each pack.

Yeah, I kinda figured most or all of this stuff is actually manufactured in Japan or China,

I still question whether this stuff is actually licensed by Topps. I have a good amount of sketchy WWE and Pokemon items that are riddled with questionable design and production values. The only thing that this item has that doesn't appear on any other bootleg-looking things I have is the barcode on the back, lending a little credence to your comments. But I have items that I know are bootleg and they still feature brand names and even trademark and copyright icons.

I think the Pokemon ones are actually legit/licensed. There was once info on the Pokemon International site. They stated the cards were invalid for tournament play because the cards were released before the standard collector cards. Those have been around for well over a decade, originally packaged under the ZZ Juvenile brand.

Thanks for the link! What a great place to pick up oddball singles of favorite players!

I have a weird Pokemon card set that is tiny... each card is about 1 1/2" x 1"... no idea if those are licensed or not. They are printed on nice prismatic foil stock and exact miniature versions of the regular cards, logos and copyrights and all.

I guess the thing that surprises me, but shouldn't, is how poorly designed and made some of these imported products are.

The tiny Pokemon set sounds interesting. It might be sometype of overseas release.

Here's some more of the WWE cards:
