Default Wrestling Rookie Cards

This has be a topic my buddy and I have been talking about lately. We dug through his cards and pulled out a John Cena card from the Royal Rumble set. Seems this might be his first card.

This got me thinking. I searched for a thread on just rookie cards and couldn't find one solely dedicated to wrestling. So let's do it!

There is so much knowledge on this forum about cards from Japan to Italy which predate the ones we have here in the states. I am not up on the magazine pages some folks cut into cards which many times also predate actual cards on stock. Mail-ins are another topic along with convenient store cards and even more limited tiny sets like the FWE for example.

Thanks ahead for any and all help as it is much appreciated.

The first Time Scott Hall appeared on a card as "Razor Ramon" was in the 1992 WWF Merlin Gold Series 2. He had other as Diamond Studd prior but the gimmick that made him famous was as "Razor Ramon". Here is the Undertakers first card, 1991 Classic. He was also in 1991 Merlin but I like this card the most. (o ya, pop 1)

Beautiful! Which one came first, the Merlin or the Classic?

I just dug that card up from my collection. You the man!

This would be his first American rookie card and not first overall card, correct? I just recently purchased a BBM 2004 American Dragon card of him.

Oh wow man thanks! I didn't think of adding them up top like that. I am going to shoot him a message and ask him if I can build on his list.

Great card. Six years before his NXT card, lol. How awesome is that?!

Yeah it looks like it would. I have never even heard of that card but it is a beauty. Do you have a picture I could use for this thread?

I know you already posted Bret Harts 1987 WWF Topps RC, but here is his 1987 OPC RC. Considering he is from Canada and these cards a little more difficult to find.

Here is Hogan's 1985 OPC #1 card. Finding these cards in an unopened box is super tough. I personally consider his 82 All Star card his Rookie, but this is one of his first mass produced cards. (Pop 4, 2 of the 10's were submitted by me and pulled from the same box)

Your collection never ceases to amaze me man. Those are great.

Could you school me a little bit on the OPC set versus the Topps?

The OPC set was released in Canada and the Topps set was released in the USA. The sets are exactly the same except the back of the cards have the wrestlers info in english and French on the OPC cards and the Topps cards have the wrestlers info in just English. For the most part the OPC boxes are a lot tougher to get, especially the 1985 WWF OPC Series 1 and the 1987 WWF OPC.

Cool stuff. Always knew of the OPC but didn't know much about it. Thanks for the info.
