Still plenty of time to sneak in another purchase this year. I picked up an Avengers Assemble card she did off sketchcollectors last week. Just to much competition to make the list this month.

That O'Connell Dawn is amazing. Can't imagine how much more awesome it looks in person.

I will try to not turn this into "Dear Diary" time, but it's been a while since I've participated on the site. Shortly after New Year's, my little canine buddy for the last 11 years got very sick and had to be put down in the middle of the month. Added to that is the stress of going through a mortgage refi and another hefty tax bill for last year, so I decided to step away before I engaged in too much "retail therapy"

I still won't be buying anything for a while, but I've missed participating on the non-sports boards and giving my feedback on your questions and great pick-ups. So, I probably won't be adding thing to this thread for a couple months, but I'll be back in the game at some point.

Anyway, here are a couple of additions from 2 Batman boxes I picked up with my eBay Bucks last month.

Jomar Bulda - Batman, ??, & Two-Face

Travis Watson - Professor Hugo Strange

Ah, gotcha--that was going a little more abstract than I was giving him credit for

Thanks

This year has been an all out assault on my card budget, but I've been able to pick up a few things here and there the last couple of months. Looking forward to picking up more again in the coming weeks.

First, not a sketch, but I picked up one of the SoA metal promo cards thinking I might try to do the set. After seeing the cards now, I'm not so sure--so this might be up for trade down the road.

Thanks to Zerostreet (Robert Jimenez) for alerting me to one of his puzzle pieces being available. I'm just missing one piece now.

Here's the addition:

And here's the puzzle:

MISSING

Also picked up a few Perna Studios sketches:

Sam Agro

Eric McConnell

Anthony Tan

Super cool MA puzzle. Hope you find the last piece. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I thought the SOA set has a pretty solid auto lineup...otherwise the rest is kinda weak.

Thank you, sir.

I agree about the auto lineup--it's pretty much perfect, but I just don't like how the cards look that much. I was also really hoping they'd have some show-worn patches as rare wardrobe items or redemptions.

They really should have had the small rectangle patches (Show-Worn): "Redwood Original" "Men oh Mayhem" etc... as redemptions. It would have been cool to have like a Chase 1/1 redemption of the Huge Samcro curved patch, framed or something like that.

I love it when you discover you have subconsciously started a sub-group of your collection. Apparently I have a thing for rock star sketches. Here's another one for the group--finally landed a Desbois sketch and this is an oversized (5x7) SDCC exclusive sketch from Woodstock Generation:

If you're interested, I've created a gallery of my music-related sketches:

I've been busy with SoA stuff (I ended up doing the set) and I forgot to scan in these PSCs I picked up from Zerostreet's (Robert Jimenez) Memorial Day sale.

First, I keep all doodles that artists include with the package. Especially when they include a monkey.

And here are the cards--Robert does great work, you can really tell that he spends a good deal of time on each card.

Hermey Meets The Grinch

Krampus

Hellboy

The Punisher

Batman

Those are great. Especially the Hellboy one.

Thanks for posting McGee! Glad you like them!

I tried to give the Punisher card the look of an old faded comic... Hard to capture that with a scan.

It feels good to finally get this thread updated. After a series of expensive events ate up my card money, I'm happy to say I'm back collecting again.

I'm doing a few things differently this time around:

*I'm going to focus on pieces (not necessarily cards) that are either in an "artistic" style or traditional comic art style. I'm done with the ultra-realistic stuff. While I still admire the realistic art, there's just too many questions on methods for me to feel good about paying top dollar for the work.

*I'm picking up a few things I've had my eye on for a while right now, but longer-term I will be focusing much more on quality versus quantity--I have too many cards in my PC as it is to continue with buying everything I like

*My busting wax days are largely behind me--as much as I love the unknown, it's just too hard to move the things I don't want to keep the cards in my house to a manageable level since I won't be selling anything going forward

Here's what came in yesterday--all from BO's own Zerostreet, aka Robert Jimenez:

Mars Attack alien - 6x8.5"

Stars Wars Illustrated AR - Vader & Friends

Winter Warlock PSC

If you're into Zerostreet's work like I am, you can find his PSCs and AR/AP cards (along with other items) here: Home tikitower Online Store Powered by Storenvy

I really dig RJ's Mars Attacks stuff. Nice addition. I ended up picking up 5 of his MA:I sketch cards to go along with the larger piece I won at NYCC.

Thanks guys--got a couple GR sketches in coming, two packed out sketches from Zerostreet, and another beautiful PSC from VOC (I'll make an exception to my realism rule for her )

I really dislike the 2014 Premier sketch card design, so it takes something pretty cool for me to get over that. I thought this one qualified.

Side note #1: After reading some of my old posts, I realize how annoying I must have been when I first started up and would not shut up about 2012 Premier. So sorry for that.

Less of a side note #2: I got GOTG for Christmas and watched it for the first time since I saw it in the theaters. What a great Marvel flick. My wife and I had created a persona for the dog we had to put down last January that was very similar to Rocket and our other dog (still living) has a similar persona to Groot. Which means the wife and I were tearing up pretty good when Groot saves everyone, but it's a great if a little weird way to remember my missing pup.

Two additions today, both from Zerostreet--I'm holding off to see what comes in tomorrow before I declare my best of the month.

Got some other cool stuff incoming and picked up a sealed Tan incentive from Diva's this evening.

3 new additions

Yea for colored pencils!
Miran Kim

I really liked the background detail on this one
Anthony Tan

Love me some VOC portraits...per usual the scan doesn't do the color of the card justice
