SCN NEWSLETTER: WEEK of February 5th Releases
SportsCardNation.com. Market Reports, Card Values, and the Hottest Auctions Online today.
New This week:
We have a lot of product to go over so lets just hit them one at a time. Short and to the point.
Yugioh Duelist Pack Yusei 2 Booster- Normal booster release. Nothing special. Prices should stay in the $40 range.
2009 Topps National Chicle Football-Market looks like its indifferent to Chicle. 3 hits per box keep these in the $65-$70 range.
2010 Topps Series 1 Baseball Hobby-Hobby got a week jump on the Jumbos. Boxes should bottom out in the $47 range. Watch for prices
to move up slowly over the next 2-3 months. By the time the season starts, Series 1 should be a $60 box.
WWE Slam Attax Evolution Trading Card Game Booster & Starter- Boosters will be about $35 and starters around $25 a Box. No upside
2009 Playoff National Treasures Football-Collectors continue to rip NT. With only Exquisite and NT in this High end price point,
both will do well in the long run as collectors continue to rip the highest end products. Cases should stay around $1275-$1300 in
the next 30 days.
2010 Rittenhouse LOST Trading Cards-With 3 Autos per Box, this product is loaded for the $60 price point. Good return on your money
2009 Topps Sterling Baseball-Solid high end product with many $500-$1000+ pulls. There are no other $200+ high end products coming
out til the end of the year so this is it. Once Sterling dry's up, watch for boxes to climb to $240+
2009 UD Signature Stars Baseball-This product has no identity. If you want the USA cards, Buy the UD USA Sets. The rest of it
looks like a base brand UD product. Watch for boxes to continue to decline in price. We should see $60-$65 soon.
2009/10 ITG Heroes & Prospects Hockey-Solid alternative to the UD HK products. Prices should stay firm in the $70 range.
2009 UD Ultimate Collection Baseball-Hands down the #1 product made in 2009 or 2010 baseball. Maybe even in any sport for 2009. UD
Loaded these to the max. The Jumbo Patches are bringing a lot of bids especially for the legendary players like Ted Williams. The
UD Spokesman are everywhere in Ultimate. Tons of Jeters, Griffeys ect.. Watch for Boxes to hold the $95-$100 mark and then a quick
spike in the next 30 days to $110-$125. This is one of those products that you will look back on 6 months from now and realize that
$100 was a bargain. They don't make products this loaded and when they do...collectors are all over it.
2009/10 UD Trilogy Hockey- Decent release. Sold out at UD. 3 Autos,3 Rookies, and 3 mems per Box. Prices should stay in the $135
2010 Upper Deck Baseball-Solid base brand product that is getting a lot of buzz due to the UD Legal battle with MLB. One of the 3
products listed under the cease and desist order which has actually helped spur sales. Boxes should hold up in the $60-$65 range
for the next 30 days.
20010 Press Pass 8 Seconds-Its Bull riding and that is a niche market! Similar to previous Bowling and Fishing products, early
breaks could be profitable but don't get stuck with product.
2010 Topps Series 1 Baseball JUMBOS-Jumbos hit a week after Hobby. Case breakers are not trilled. Prices should hold in the
$90-$100 range and then push up to $120+ by the start of the season. The Jumbos are a lot harder to find than Hobby.
2009/10 Panini Contenders Basketball- 4 Nice Autos per Box. On-card Signature. Short prints also. We still feel Panini Limited was
the best product in Bskt. Contenders should hold up above $100-$105 a Box.
2009 Topps Platinum Football-This one could be a sleeper. The break looks like a mini version of Bowman Sterling and the product
has been sold out at Topps direct. Watch for boxes to come out in the $95-$100 range. These could shoot up to $110+ very fast. Keep
an eye on the breaks....
2009 Just Minors Mystery Balls Baseball - Just some more signed balls. Same as in past years...new prospects. Downside is $30 a
Box...upside is $40.
TIDBITS of NEWS:
UD Ultimate Collection Baseball is probably the best break we've seen in some time. It seems like UD knew they were going to use this product to challenge the MLB baseball license. You had to come out with a Loaded product for people to care and that they did. It will be interesting to see if UD continues to load up non-licensed BB products with SP Authentic, SPX and Goudey. As long as the products are as loaded as Ultimate Collection...we don't think collectors will care if MLB says its licensed or not. Imagine how loaded all the product going forward would be if the manufacturers did not have to pay millions of dollars in fees. They could then put that money into products like Ultimate BB. Every product would be twice as good without the manufacturers trying to cover the nut for the league Licenses. Let's see how this plays out but 2009 Ultimate Collection BB is the product of Year. UD also just sent out product info for their 2010 Ultimate Collection Basketball using their Collegiate Licensing agreement. Collectors will love the Autos of MJ in a Carolina uniform and Lebron in his high school uni. Add all the legends like Bird, Bill Russell, Dr J ect and you have a product that's a home run. This is a change of pace from the usual NBA Autos. Even if UD had the NBA license and came out with a Collegiate Ultimate Collection bskt, it would still be a hit. Imagine this now: UD has Hockey and Football, they still produce Baseball and now can make Basketball that collectors will want just as much if not more than Panini due to their exclusive license. The minds at UD have thought this through and collectors will choose whatever products give them the most bang for the buck.
Have you Heard about Tim's Baseball Card Shop in Chicago, IL ? You will on Super Bowl Sunday ! Miller High Life decided instead of doing a Super bowl ad about its beer...to turn that $3 million and put the attention on the little guy. They decided to focus on small business's who may need a boost in this tough economy. Tim Herron was Chosen as 1 of 4 business's highlighted.
“It really hasn't sunk in that this is real,” said Tim Herron on being selected. “It’s a real fun commercial, real simple, nothing fancy. Everyone was being themselves, no acting or anything.”
Herron will be appearing alongside the Miller High Life delivery truck guy, Windell Middlebrooks. But make no doubt about it, Tim will be the star. You can see some teaser footage for the advertisement and see Tim talking about the shoot on Miller’s web site at Miller High Life
(note: you need to be 21 or over to view the content).
