There is a setting in vB that lets you place a time limit on how long a thread title can be edited. This limit is likely set very short right now, but could be made infinite if needed.

Unfortunately, vB does not allow permissions for this on an individual forum basis, so editing thread titles couldn't just be allowed in the FS boards for example. It's a forum-wide setting.

Even one bump per day can be too many. Sometimes I see like 15 accumulated bumps with no replies. Threads that unpopular should just go away.

There should also be some type of limit on how many times you bump a thread with no response. If the poster gets zero responses, that should serve as a hint that there is no interest in whatever is in the post

I think one bump per day would suffice UNLESS the OP is responding to previous messages, but I kinda get annoyed with those who write TTT or bump every few hours...

I agree that once a day is enough as long as updating the thread with new info about sold/traded items is allowed and isn't considered a bump so that the OP doesn't get PMs about stuff that is already gone. Perhaps mods could be contacted about title changes if needed so that the OP can just use the same for sale/trade thread if the OP would like to do so.

I think that bumping your thread multiple times in one day is "no no". Bumping your thread every 24 hours is fine however. I also think that if you get no interest in your thread after a 5 days, you need to stop bumping your thread (or atleast think about why no one is buying your product). Many larger forums would just lock your thread for doing this.
Go visit LS1Tech.com and see how much daily bumping they stand for. That forum is huge and probably gets a new listing in the B/S/T thread every couple of minutes.

there is no need to bump a thread even to say something is sold or no longer available - just edit the original post. this should be done anyways as a lot of people are lazy and don't bother reading the entire thread before sending a PM - they just look at the OP.

same thing with posting something like "PMs replied to" - that's the equivalent of a "bump" post - there's no need for it as the people you PMed aleady got your message.

Ok, I think I am the only one to publicly say I voted "no" and here is why:

A thread gets deleted, they just create a new one. And yes, you can ban them, suspend them, etc. But then we lose members, and we always want more members in my mind.

I do not mind seeing the threads. I use the "New Posts" link to look for threads, and if I see a for sale that has been bumped, I just keep on going down the list. It does not hurt me in any way.

It was always my own personal rule to bump no more than once per 24 hours, did not even know it was policy. So my voting "no" has nothing to do with me and my 2 total "for sale" threads.

OK, let the egging, flogging, and insulting begin!!

Now let me make an amendment; the endless bumping of the ebay/spam section I have no tolerence for. But in the marketplace I dont mind.

voted yes to delete.
a lot of the newbies (and some oldies) just do not read the FAQs or use the search function (I think we have all been guilty of this though at one time or another). I have learned that if there are no responses then the posting is done, no need to bump every few hours especially if you are moving it from the 5th spot to the first, that is just a waste of time and server space. The multi posts to sell 1 card at a time need to go too combine them to one posting. I won't go off topic, so I do vote yes to delete.
If it is possible to change the title of the posts I'm for that too.

Why don't you just change the posting feature so that when you update something it will bump it. Blowout rules says you should update a thread whenever something changes and how is anyone going to read the thread unless you bump it? Now that I know a bump is only allowed every 24 hours I will stick to that guideline. Why not make the post automatically bump when updated? Would make life easier IMO.

Yes..but if you notice the Neh's are growing about 5% per day...could very even out the poll by the end of next week. At 60/40 I doubt we do anything, but when it was 90/10 that was much more convincing.

80/20 I really don't think it will get near 60/40.

Nobody in their right mind wants sellers to bump their threads every 2-4 hours like we have on this board regularly. Do they?

If I'm reading this right, the poll is now closed.

Yes - Delete the Thread(s) 80 76.92%
No - its not really that big of a deal 24 23.08%

Looks like the vote was 80/24. Given that, in the next 24 hours, we'll change the rules to reflect this, so if your thread is caught with an illegal bump, it will be deleted. We need to rewrite the rules on it as I know there are some gray areas.

I myself dont consider someone responding to a post being a bump, nor do I really consider a "price drop" a bump (however it could be conceived as one). Its the normal TTT, bump, offer considered type posts that I consider to be a bump. So if you've got questions or suggestions...now is the time to say something as it will no longer be your post is removed, the entire thread will be.

sounds good to me i think once a day is enough!!! i have been qulity myself a couple times of bumping after 10-12 hours!! i wish the multiple threads of single cards in same sport should be mereged!!! you do not need 4 threads for 4 cards unless they are lots but even then you can space them out!!!
