Default Cal Ripken Jr

B&N is doing presells for his new book and it will be autographed for $16.99 not a bad deal for a hard to get HOF. If you have a members card it comes out to about $12.50 w/ free shipping. I ordered 2 of them!!

Wow. Sounds like quite a deal. Guess they don't worry as much about getting paid big $$ for autos when you have a book out that you can sell tons of.

I haven't purchased one yet but would it be immoral to pick up mutiples as an "investment"?

I can guarantee you that these are signed tip-in pages...read up on signed tip-in pages, the majority of them are auto-pens. On a very very very rare occasion the person may actually sign all the pages that are given to them, but we're talking thousands of pages.

A signed tip-in page is pretty much a blank page or the title page that is printed before the book is bound...then all those pages are sent to the "person to be signed". The person either signs thousands of them or their handler puts them on the auto-pen machine. Then they are mailed back to the publisher and when the book is bound then the auto'd page is added as the 1st page of the book...sometimes the 2nd page depending on if they sent a title page to be signed.

For instance...this past November amazon was pre-selling Sarah Palin's new book to which it mentioned they were autographed...it even said they were signed tip-in pages. I took the chance and ordered 2...they were EXACTLY the same signature just on different spots of the page. Of course I returned them like most other people when they realized they were auto-pens.

We all know how great Cal is with signing for this fans...and he may have signed all these pages. I will gamble again and order 2...if they are auto-pen then of course I'll just return them and I'm out nothing since I got free shipping.

The publisher will not know if they were auto pens...they just know it was autographed by Cal. In theory an auto-pen is the person's autograph...the EXACT match, so in theory it is an autographed book. We, as autograph collectors, know it's not the same...to the general public (the majority people buying this book) will not care and think it's actually Ripken's auto...

I'm guessing this should be a sign, but I tried something on Barnes & Noble, putting into my cart the max they will let you (999), and it let me.

Planning on keeping one and recouping my money with the other.

That's good news...let's hope he did sign them and use those 2 books as comparisons. The 2 books on fanbiz have different signatures so when you gys start getting them in...post photos so we can compare!

I would bet he signed each and every one.
People forget he signed hundreds upon hundreds of autographs for free at ballparks everywhere during his playing days. And not just 5-10 autographs, he'd sign for 10 minutes or so, which would be basically everyone. And he would blow on stuff signed in sharpie/paint pens to ensure it wouldn't smear. Guy was wonderful with the fans, which is a big reason why he was so loved throughout his career.

Also, many famous people who write a book are willing to sign a ton of books just to get people to buy it. Usually it's over the course of time at appearances and stuff though. Let's hope they're real though.

I had 3 on order when they were $15 (total order was $45 after a 10% coupon code)- and I got an email from B&N saying shipping was delayed. So I just deleted that order - and placed an order for 4 copies with Coupon Code P4U7L9E (save 10%). I now am getting 4 books for $46.62 after tax and free shipping
