Default TAMtalizied's TTM Basketball Thread

Good day fellow collectors. I am a newbie when it comes to TTM, but I am hoping to learn from each of you, and hopefully I can share some of my successes, or fails with you all.

My goal with this thread is to post each success I get back, and tell you a bit about the history of each player for those interested. Also, this will act as a TTM manager/tracker for me as well.

Thanks!! Looking forward to sharing some stuff with y'all!!

Default PURCHASED - This is not a success, it is a purchase for obvious reason

The legendary Mr Basketball:

George Lawerence Mikan Jr (June 18, 1924 – June 1, 2005)
- Nickname: Mr. Basketball

- Brief Background:(Source: Wikipedia)
Invariably playing with thick, round spectacles, the 6 ft 10 in 245 lb. Mikan is seen as one of the pioneers of professional basketball, redefining it as a game of so-called big men with his prolific rebounding, shot blocking and his talent to shoot over smaller defenders with his ambidextrous hook shot, result of his own Mikan Drill.

Mikan had a successful player career, winning seven NBL, BAA and NBA championships, an All-Star MVP trophy, three scoring titles and being member of the first four NBA All-Star and the first six All-BAA and All-NBA Teams. Mikan was so dominant that he caused several rule changes in the NBA, among them widening the foul lane—known as the "Mikan Rule"—and introducing the shot clock.

- Accomplishments:
5× BAA/NBA champion (1949-1950, 1952-1954)
2× NBL champion (1947-1948)
NBL Rookie of the Year Award (1946)
NBL Most Valuable Player (1948)
2× NBL season scoring leader (1947-48)
3× NBA season scoring leader (1949-51)
NBA All-Star Game MVP (1953)
4× NBA All-Star (1951–1954)
6× All-BAA/NBA First Team (1949–1954)
Greatest Player of the First Half-Century (1950)
NBA 25th Anniversary Team (1970)
NBA 35th Anniversary Team (1980)
NBA 50 Greatest Players (1996)

Default GIFT - It was a gift from an awesome member (SPauthentic84)

Today I introduce to you "The Chief":

Robert Lee Parish
- Nickname: The Chief

- Brief Background:
(Source: Wikipedia)
Mr Parish was known for his strong defense and jump shooting, and was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. In 1996, Parish was also named as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. His nickname was The Chief, after the fictitious Chief Bromden, a silent, giant Native American character in the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. According to Parish, former Celtics forward Cedric Maxwell gave him this nickname because of his stoic nature.

Mr Parish was a versatile center, using his 7' size and speed to contain opposing players, launch precise shots from outside the paint, and finish fast breaks - the latter uncanny for a man of his stature. Fellow Hall of Famer and teammate from 1985-87 Bill Walton once called Parish the "greatest shooting big man of all time", perhaps because of Parish's field goal and free throw shooting ability, an unusual talent among most centers. His trademark was his high release jump shot, which traversed a very high arc before falling.

- Accomplishments:
4× NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986, 1997)
9× NBA All-Star (1981–1987, 1990–1991)
All-NBA Second Team (1982)
All-NBA Third Team (1989)
NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team
#00 Retired by the Boston Celtics

I know what you mean. It is definitely sad, and freaky in a way. I don't think there is a good word for this feeling, but it is like surreal + odd + scary + sad

Default 03/23/2013 RESULT - 1 Success

Over the weekend, the mail brought in 1 success

Brad Davis
-Nickname: none

-Brief Background: (Source: Wikipedia)
Davis was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 1977 NBA Draft. Davis played for the Lakers for one season, then for the Indiana Pacers for one season. He played only part of the next NBA season for the Utah Jazz. After being released from the Jazz, he played with the Great Falls Sky of the Western Basketball Association and with the Anchorage Northern Knights of the CBA for the remainder of the 1979-80 basketball season.

Davis returned to the NBA with an expansion team, the Dallas Mavericks, for the 1980-81 basketball season. Davis spent the rest of his NBA career (12 seasons) with the Mavericks. These included four seasons in which he played in all 82 games of the season, plus three other seasons in which he played in 81, 80, and 79 games.

In April 1992, Davis retired after 15 NBA seasons, and he was the final Maverick remaining from the team's first season in 1980-81. On November 14, 1991, Davis was the first Maverick to have his number retired when his #15 jersey was raised to the rafters of Reunion Arena.

-Accomplishment:
#15 Retired by Dallas Mavs

Default 03/26/2013 RESULT - 2 Successes!!

Found these 2 successes in my mailbox today:

Walter Davis
-Nickname: Greyhound

-Brief Background: (Source: Wikipedia)
The Suns selected Davis with the fifth pick of the 1977 NBA Draft. He made an immediate impact, playing in 81 games and averaging 24.2 points per game in his first season, which would also be his career-high. He won the 1978 Rookie of the Year Award, and earned second team All-NBA honors. Over his first ten seasons, Davis averaged over 20 points per game six times, and earned trips to six All-Star Games.

Over his career, Davis averaged 18.9 points, 3.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. Davis was affectionately known as "The Greyhound" for his speedy style and sleek physical appearance. Suns broadcaster Al McCoy created many alternate nicknames for him, including "Sweet D," "The Candyman," and "The Man with the Velvet Touch." Davis is the Suns' all-time leading scorer with 15,666 points.

-Accomplishment:
6× NBA All-Star (1978–1981, 1984, 1987)
NBA Rookie of the Year (1978)
2× All-NBA Second Team (1978–1979)
NBA All-Rookie First Team (1978)
#6 Retired by the Phoenix Suns

Clark Kellogg
-Nickname: Special K

-Brief Background: (Source: Wikipedia)
In 1982, Kellogg declared for the NBA draft after his junior year of college, and was the 1st round draft pick of the Indiana Pacers. In his first season he was selected for the NBA All-Rookie Team. He is one of only a handful of rookies in NBA history to average 20 points and 10 rebounds a game. He was much heralded as the next breakout NBA superstar. Converse signed him to an endorsement deal, to release his own Converse "Special K" sneaker. However, he only played three full seasons, and portions of two others, for the Pacers before chronic knee problems forced him to retire. During his three full seasons with the Pacers, the Pacers were a combined 68–178.

-Accomplishment:
NBA All-Rookie First Team (1983)

Craig Anthony Hodges (born June 27, 1960 in Park Forest, Illinois) is a retired American professional basketball player who played in the NBA for 10 seasons and led the league in 3-point shooting percentage three times. He won two NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, and along with Larry Bird, is only one of two players to win three consecutive Three Point Contests at the National Basketball Association All-Star Weekend, winning the competition in 1990, 1991, and 1992. Hodges also holds the Three Point Contest records for the most consecutive shots made with 19, set in 1991, and the most points scored in a single round at 25, set in 1986. Alvan Adams
-Nickname: Double A

-Brief Background: (Source: Wikipedia)
Alvan Leigh Adams (born July 19, 1954 in Lawrence, Kansas) is a retired American professional basketball player. After starring at the University of Oklahoma, the 6'9" (2.06 m) power forward/center was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 4th pick of the 1975 NBA Draft. Adams was a rookie on a Suns team whose season included an improbable playoff run that took them all the way to the 1976 NBA Finals. In the same year, he was selected to play in the All-Star Game and won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award as well as being named to the All-NBA Rookie Team. Adams spent his entire career with the Suns and retired in 1988 as the second all-time Suns scorer with 13,910 career points.

On February 22, 1977, Adams recorded a triple-double with 47 points, 18 rebounds and 12 assists against the Buffalo Braves. He is one of four players in NBA history (along with Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain and Vince Carter) to have as many as 46 points and 16 rebounds in a triple-double performance.

Adams's jersey number (33) was retired, but on the signing of free agent Grant Hill, Adams granted him permission to wear his familiar No. 33 with the Suns.

Adams is the franchise leader in games played, minutes played, rebounds, and steals; second in field goals made and attempted; third in assists; and fourth in blocks.
