Big big mailday today...

Today started out blah...the wife and I were supposed to head to the Mudcats game today to try to get Ackley and some other players autos...but the wife has been sick so we decided to maybe go tomorrow instead...stay tuned.

It turned out to be a big mailday however....

First UPS showed up with 2 packages...one for me and one for the wife.

Mine had an autographed 8x10 of Jason Heyward that I bought from Just Minors for a recent signing they had. I think it was $39...a bargain for what others of his are going for! I will post pics later.

My wife received an autographed Colts mini-helmet from Peyton Manning with personalization and his number inscribed! Very nice! The funny thing is we had return shipping on a box for him and the foundation instead shipped it via UPS at THEIR EXPENSE!! They also returned our $20 check. We are thinking of sending back a donation since he signed a card and mini-helmet for us!

In today's regular mail...

Lee Smith came back unsigned 0/2 with price list.

Garrett Anderson (about 2 months wait) signed 1/2 in blue sharpie. Luckily he did sign the Allen and Ginter, which was my preference (if he only signed one).

Tony LaRussa (about 2 months wait) signed 1/1 in blue sharpie with "10" inscribed.

Jamie Moyer signed 3/3 in black sharpie (about 3 months)

FOOTBALL:

Jim Langer (HOF) signed 2/2 in blue sharpie (about 3 weeks time)

Emerson Boozer signed 3/3 (about 2 weeks time) in black sharpie with personalizations on 2 and "32" inscribed. He also sent a very nice note on an index card that was also signed. Very nice response!!

Sorry about your day...Maybe tomorrow will bring you lots of great autos! Good luck with the job...are you really thinking of moving to Sacramento? Is it for a teaching job? The wife and I are looking at jobs in Indiana and Tennessee...we are traveling to Eastern Tennessee in two weeks for interviews. The good news is that it would be about 10 minutes from where the Cubs AA team plays.

I hear ya about the teaching jobs. Good luck with the sales job. My wife really wants to move closer to family (Indiana) so hopefully we will find out soon about other jobs. School ends here very, very soon!

Okay guys and gals...I am in Tennessee for the next few days and I am staying about a minute away from the Tennessee Smokies baseball stadium. I won't have access to my mail until we return home late Saturday night...but we have tickets to 3 Smokies games and 1 Kinston Indian game on the trip back home Saturday. Game 1 was last night...it was an hour rain delay...and the game was Huntsville Stars vs. Tennessee Smokies...the wife and I were able to get the following autographs:

Huntsville:

Caleb Gindl 5/5
Brett Lawrie 4/4
Zealous Wheeler 1/1
Eddie Morlan 3/3

Tennessee:

Josh Vitters 9/9 (8 cards and he signed the team helmet)
Steve Clevenger 4/4 (3 cards, helmet)
Chris Carpenter 2/2 (cards) *he was working the radar gun in street clothes, I caught him between innings with a couple cards...will try to get him on helmet next couple games.

Tony Campana 1/1 helmet
Ty Wright 1/1 helmet
Nate Samson 1/1 helmet
Alex Maestri 1/1 helmet (one of the friendliest player ever, he always remembers us from when they travel to Carolina!)
Matthew Spencer 1/1 helmet
Tony Thomas 1/1 helmet
Jake Muyco 1/1 helmet
Hung-Wen Chen 1/1 helmet (he pitched last night)
Blake Lalli 1/1 helmet

Tonight Dustin Ackley and the Diamond Jaxx come to town!

The wife and I went to the Diamond Jaxx vs. Smokies game tonight...we decided to focus on the Diamond Jaxx, so no Tennessee autos tonight...but it was a VERY good night:

The wife got about everyone (27) players to sign a Mariners helmet (including Ackley, Liddi, and Josh Fields...in addition we got the following:

Dustin Ackley 10/10 including a sweet spot ROMLB with his number inscribed, team helmet and 8 cards. The ball and 6 cards we got before the game, 2 cards after the game on the way to the bus. He was pretty cool overall.

Alex Liddi signed 5/5 (4 cards, helmet)...very cool guy...super nice...

Josh Fields- signed 3/3 (2 cards, helmet) for us after the game on the way to the bus. Not friendly at all...blew everyone off before the game while he stood and talked to other players. He does not like to sign. He personalizes everything he signs (except team items like the helmet)

Michael Pineda 4/4 (3 cards, team helmet) Nice guy!

Carlos Peguero 2/2 (1 card, team helmet)

Johan Limonta 4/4 (3 cards, team helmet)

Mauricio Robles 3/3 (2 cards, team helmet)

Aaron Jensen 3/3 (2 cards, team helmet)

Daniel Cortes 5/5 (4 cards, team helmet)-Nice guy even though I probably offended him by asking him to sign the wrong card!

Anthony Varvaro 4/4 (3 cards, team helmet)

Luis Munoz 4/4 (3 cards, helmet)

Jeffrey Dominguez 3/3 (2 cards, helmet)

Edward Paredes 4/4 (3 cards, helmet)

Carlos Triunfel 6/6 (5 cards, helmet)

Great night overall...the only guy I missed that I had cards for was Robert Rohrbaugh...he signed the helmet, but I did not recognize him in time after the game before he got on the team bus. Tomorrow night...Diamond Jaxx vs. Smokies night 2!! We will focus on the Smokies tomorrow...Their team set came out tonight, so we have plenty of cards to get signed. I also want to get Vitters on a ROMLB. Besides...I only have a couple more cards of Ackley unsigned!!

Alrighty...night 3 of West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx vs. Tennessee Smokies is complete...

The only player I sought out from the Diamond Jaxx was Ackley before the game...I caught him after they wrapped up practice in the dugout and he signed 2/2 of the last cards I had of him...

The rest of the pregame and postgame outside the stadium focused on the Smokies, who also had their team sets go on sale yesterday which we picked up and I was able to complete everyone signing tonight (everyone who is still on the team). The wife worked on her team signed helmet which is now also complete with 27 signatures (24 roster players and 3 coaches).

Here is the specifics from tonights Smokies signings...

Hung-Wen Chen 1/1 card...tried to blow us off post game, but I was able to nab him!!

Chris Carpenter 4/4 (3 cards, team helmet)...Wife bought his game used pink ribbon jersey from last season in gift shop yesterday...he thought that was cool

Josh Vitters 3/3 (2 cards, 1 ROMLB sweet spotted)- Did not sign pregame...was very nice and willing signer post game in parking lot

Craig Muschka (2/2 1 card, team helmet)

Jake Muyco (1/1 card)

Robinson Chirinos (2/2 1 card, team helmet)

Tony Campana (1/1 card)

Blake Lalli (1/1 card)

Ty Wright (1/1 card)

Nate Samson (1/1 card)

Tony Thomas (1/1 card)

Brandon Guyer 3/3 (2 cards, helmet)

Austin Bibens-Dirkx 3/3 (2 cards, helmet) **Nice guy, signed before game despite being starting pitcher!**

Matt Spencer 1/1 (card)

Ryan Buchter 2/2 (1 card, team helmet)

Steve Clevenger 1/1 (card)

Dustin Sasser 2/2 (card, team helmet)

Russ Canzler 1/1 (card)

David Cales 2/2 (1 card, helmet) Nice guy, signed a ton for everyone

Alex Maestri 1/1 (card)...always recognizes us right away, super nice guy...wife's favorite player on Smokies...took picture with him after the game

Jeremy Papelbon 2/2 (card, helmet)...always chats with us and recognizes us from previous encounters. Funny, nice guy...signs lots for fans

Bill Dancy 2/2 (card, helmet) manager of Smokies

Tom Beyers 2/2 (card, helmet) hitting coach of Smokies

Dennis Lewallyn 2/2 (card helmet) pitching coach of Smokies...Nice, funny guy...always friendly and signs even though he doesn't understand why we want his autograph!!

Alberto Cabrera 1/1 (team helmet)

Luke Sommer 1/1 (team helmet)

Marwin Gonzalez 1/1 (team helmet)

Good Game...both in terms of autographs and the Smokies won to take a game and a half lead over West Tennessee for the playoff picture. Overall, the Smokies are a great signing team, as was West Tennessee!! Tomorrow we stop by Kinston for one last game on this road trip!

nice dude! I cannot believe the starter signed before the game... hahah.. most pitchers are doing some ridiculous superstition or listening to music... thats very cool. I have a huge NEW ERA On-Field collection and one of my favorites is the "TS" tennessee smokies cap... it fits perfect and all my players always ask me who it is.... love minor league lids!
