Going to build a vintage set....what set would you build?

I have been thinking about this for a while and now I have finally decided to go forward with it. I was thinking about doing a 55 topps, 63 topps or 69 topps. Let me know what you guys think or what set would you recommend to build?

all three great choices. Raw or graded? The 55 Clemente and Koufax are superb!

From a purely aesthetic point of view, I personally would choose the 1963. However, the 1955 is not far behind. Tough to go wrong with any of the three, though.

I'm thinking about trying for a PSA 5 or higher 55 Topps set. The Clemente will be the tough one.

1965 topps, I love that set,1955 topps is right up there though.

69 topps has some great legends and rookies, the design is awesome, and will cost less than the others.

I'm building the 1954 Topps set. Has three challenging rookies: Aaron, Kaline and Banks.
The array of colors make it one of the most beautiful vintage sets in my opinions.

If you are on a budget, 1956 Topps is a great set to build since it does not have any big RC's.

If you've got the $$$ to spend, my favorite pre-1970 sets are 1954 Topps, 1955 Topps, and 1965 Topps.

I plan to build the set over a year or two so money should not be an issue. I have a friend who deals in vintage and will help me find the best cards for my budget. The only thing that discourages me from the 55 Topps set is that there is not a Mantle or a Musial. I am still looking for others opinions so let's hear them.

I'd do 1960 Topps because that's the year I was born.

I've always been kind of fond of the 1961 set myself. I am doing a 65 psa 8 or higher right now. I'm not gonna lie, it keeps me up at night some times :-) If I could do it over again, I would start with the most expensive card (or favorite card) first. That way you don't get discouraged about picking up a Don Mossi and having to look at all that ear when you could be looking at a Mantle. Just my tip.

Im about 60% done with my 1970 Topps set. Its tough.

I like the 62 set a lot though..

I really want to do the 1970 set. One of my favorite sets.

My close second is 1975 with the colorful borders.

Out of your 3, if I were to rank them in the order I would do:

#1 - 1963
#2 - 1955
#3 - 1969

I think 1969 visually is similar to 63 but not as nice. There are some cool cards in it, but it's not my fav.

If I were to pick 3 of my own, I would do

#1 - 1965
#2 - 1962
#3 - 1963

I think from 1961-65 were probably the best designed sets Topps has ever done. The next Mantle I get will be a 65.

No love for 57 topps on here! I Love that set because it has mostly on the field photography and a nice simple design.

1961- anything early 1970's but probably 1973 as a favorite- first set I put together.

I like 57 Topps, they are nice looking cards. I also like 53 and 54 Bowman's.

Finished the '57 Topps- took a little over two years to finish a "upper mid-grade" set. I'm two cards shy (mantle and bench) of the complete '68. About 75% complete of the '67, and about 25 cards shy of both the '70 and '71.

I love VINTAGE!
