Default Older Sets Question

So today I found an old shop that mainly deals with coins and stamps, but in the back blocked off to the public due to some construction I found an entire room filled with tons of old sets and singles and folders stacked with thousands upon thousands of cards from all sports that havent been looked out in years. After the economy took a hit the owners focused on other things and hasnt had a chance to look thru them. There was too much for me to go thru and I wasnt prepared to focus on specific sets. So my question is what sets should I pay close attention to that might have some solid finds? This would apply to all sports. Any assistance would be awesome. Thanks!

Baseball is probably the easiest. Of course almost any set from 1975 or before is going to have something "good" in it. Any set from 52 to 69 will have a Mantle. Even commons from those years in good condition are worth grabbing.

Football,
COMC is a good way to get a ballpark on the top cards.

Sometimes it's the random things to look for. Look at this basketball stuff. The rule of thumb with some of the old random stuff is "if you've heard of him" it could be worth something". No matter how random it seems.

Hope that helps a little. I'm sure others will have different opinions.

btw - I would LOVE to find someplace like this.

How "old" are the cards?

-The years of the sets will determine what yoru focus will be. However, so long as these are 1984 and earlier, hi-grade cards can fetch a premium. 1984 Donruss Mattingly, 1983 Sandberg, 1982 Ripken, etc. all fetch premiums at 9 or 10 grades.

Good luck.
