Default 1977-1979 Sportscaster Cards to Look For?

I just got done cataloging the entire 1977-1979 set I found a few months back.

I know the Magic, Gretzky, Bird, and to a lesser extent, Ainge cards are the big money cards. All but the Ainge, which I sold, have been slabbed. Are there any others I should be on the lookout for? I have three free PSA submissions, so I'm trying to figure out which cards to grade.

None of these are for a personal collection...just trying to maximize profit.

Thanks. There are quite a few Pele cards in that set. A few are of the higher number variety.

I'm not sure how much value would be added to a Prefontaine if slabbed.

Any major star you can find that you think has a shot at a 9 would be worth grading.

The high-number Ernie Davis and Wilt Chamberlain Volleyball card seem to be pretty good candidates. Other than that, I am at a loss.

In general, high #'s are the scarcest and sell for more than low #'s.

The Dan Gable card always sells well.

That is another card I sold already. Where do the high numbers start? 56? 60?
The set I have is well into the 100s

Its funny....I picked up a lot of about 1200-1400 of these last weekend. Lots of $4-$6 cards in there. Louganis is another decent seller.

Try to find some of the foreign language versions. I've got a Finnish Gretzky.

I'd say any over 80 is tough to find.

Over a 100 and they start to get pretty rare.

Beckett Basketball Annual should have a list. (at least the older annuals listed them)

Thanks. A fellow boardie sent me an old Beckett they were listed in, but it cut off before the 100's started. Must be pretty rare indeed. No idea why my uncle kept his subscription open so long.

There is some skip numbering - high card # series that were never produced.

I think they didn't make series 90-99, then started again at series 100. who knows why, but 100+ cards are pretty rare.

I'll go through the high numbers i have pulled to see what is missing. I recently sold all of the hockey cards minus the gretzky. Some of those were in the 80s and 100s. I can't remember if there were any in the 90s

You are correct. Looks like it skips over the 90-99 series and goes right into the 100+s
