Default Nice Flea Market Find BABE RUTH Candy 1928

Going through all the junk at the flea market and found these. Couldnt pass them up with no pencil marks or creases! Also just checked PSA pop report and it says "no longer grading" why wouldnt they still grade these?

Not bad for $0.30 and the cost of a stamp. AND you got six chocolate bars to eat.

Damn I don't know but those first two cards look reproduced, reminds me of the Babe Ruth on pawn stars..personally not to rain on your parade but I would not be comfortable with dropping $200, with no real certainty....

Looks like a nice haul. Most of my business is from flea markets.

Just curious, am i the only one who smells (i mean take it out of the top loader and put it up to the nose and take a big whiff) old cards to verify their legitmacy...

I absolutley use this as an indicator.

100% agreed. Someone on here got taken at an estate sale not too long ago with reproductions that were artificially aged. And when a grading company says 'no longer grading' to me that means there were too many fakes/reproductions (like with the NFL Rookie Premiere autos from certain years). Definitely hope everything works out for you though.

Too many reprints. I think the card companies have trouble verifying authenticity.

Beckett would *probably* grade it...

I would guess PSA would slab the wrapper.

They're cool to look at, real or not. Frame em up and enjoy them.

Thats what I was thinking either way, I have some bambino mem that would look nice in a frame and would just fit this in. Just wanted to get them slabbed to protect them if they are real!

yeah there are plenty of reprint cards of these out there. Getting them authenticated would be a difference between having $5 cards and $500 cards

the problem is I have seen plenty of articles that have told of not just how some can make reprint cards look aged to that time period but also how they can put them in with something to make the cards have the old musty aroma that we all can recognize from the cards/books from the 20's/30's type era

Anyone know if the fakes/reprints fluorescence under uv light?

It's odd that PSA would not grade this if it's based on a population of reproductions and "fakes" in the marketplace.

I thought it was that very skill set that you're paying a professional grading service for, to have an expert eye to identify what is real and what is not for authenticity beyond just looking at the edges, corners, surface and centering.

If PSA nor Beckett can't authenticate the cards, and fear having illegitimate cards pass through the scrutiny of their supposed experts, then what type of confidence does that instill in the grading market to any other card(s) that have been graded in the past as well as going forward into the future.
