Besides the 1952 Mantle, what is the post-war card to have?
Not including the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, which pretty well everybody considers the post-war baseball card to have, what would be next in line?
I.e. 1968 Topps Ryan, 1963 Topps Rose, 1955 Topps Clemente.
It seems like the 1952 Mantle is the clear cut #1 for post war, but I imagine there is some debate for the 2nd best.

I think a sleeper would be the 1956 Topps Mickey Mantle.

I would have to vote for the 1963 Pete Rose, although it is tough choice.

1988 Topps Pete Incaviglia

Don't forget the 1992 Donruss Donn Pall.

TimGeezy 07-12-2013 01:45 PM

One of my favorites.

On a serious note, I would have to say 1968 Jerry Kooseman. There is another guy on the card....

5 replies, not one serious one. 1954 Topps Hank Aaron is the correct answer.

guru 07-12-2013 03:50 PM

1963 Topps Pete Rose
1968 Topps Nolan Ryan
1968 Topps Johnny Bench
1969 Topps Reggie Jackson
1954 Topps Hank Aaron
1959 Topps Bob Gibson
1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr.
1951 Bowman Willie Mays
1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle
1955 Topps Roberto Clemente

These are all staples in a nice PC.

JoshHamilton 07-12-2013 04:07 PM

1953 Pee Wee Reese

sthoemke 07-12-2013 04:27 PM

1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson
1949 Leaf Joe DiMaggio
1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle
1951 Bowman Willie Mays

ToppsCollector1 07-12-2013 06:47 PM

Besides the T206 wagner and the 1952 mantle id have to go with the 1952 eddie matthews, Pafko

And even the 1957 Bill Mazeroski

lobo_hacker 07-12-2013 08:28 PM

-Which war?

lobo_hacker, fond of the 1948 Bowman and Leaf Kenny Washington cards today for some reason, though as a non-baseball card doesn't technically count

No Love for the 1953 Topps Saichel Paige?

Mikegioseffi 07-13-2013 06:00 PM

the true mickey mantle rookie 1951 bowman,
way undervalued in my opinion

kyle1707 07-14-2013 10:09 PM

54 Hank aaron

thecomebacker 07-15-2013 02:27 AM

1951 bowman mantle
1951 bowman mays
....for me

Leon 07-15-2013 11:38 AM

1869 Peck and Snyder
woops, I misread and thought it was war, I would go with the '52 Mantle....and a few others....maybe a 1951 Bowman Mantle...

LordLansdowne 07-15-2013 10:46 PM

I'd go with 1948 Leaf Satchel Paige or 1952 Mathews.

gottagitdemjs 07-16-2013 12:48 AM

I'm with the guy above. The 51 Bowman Mantle is ridiculously undervalued. You can still get a low grade for around $1000-1500.

GC1980 07-23-2013 08:59 AM

1951 Bowman Mantle is a stunner and very undervalued. I think the 56 Mantle is his nicest looking card and being from the Triple Crown year is a bonus.

The 1951 Bowman Mays, 1954 Topps Aaron are pretty sweet as well. Ryan RC is great card but overrated IMO. I like the 63 Rose as well.

If we are going all sport post war I would have to vote the 1986-87 Fleer Jordan as a must have for any collection. Most iconic post war sports card after the Mantle.

KennyWoo 07-24-2013 01:04 PM

1948 Bowman Musial
1951 Bowman Mantle
And a personal favorite that my dad owns, a 1962 Maris. Really cool to see the stat line with 61 HR on the back of the card.

And for something non-vintage, a legitimate Frank Thomas 1990 NNOF.

Gmrson 07-24-2013 01:20 PM

pretty tough to choose one, but if I got a freebie it would be a 1954 Bowman Ted Williams

dhendrix1303 07-24-2013 01:52 PM

1954 Topps Hank Aaron.

Nuff said.

harryhudini 07-24-2013 02:10 PM

1982 Topps Traded Ripken
1989 Bowman Griffey because this was the year of the weird shape card

Texans81 07-24-2013 04:27 PM

there are several that I think would be highly desirable.

'51 Bowman Mantle
'51 Bowman Mays
'54 Topps Aaron
'54 Topps Banks
'55 Topps Koufax
'55 Topps Clemente

those would be a few off the top of my head...
