Here's an assortment of Mantles in my PC. The 65 WS is probably the only one worth grading, but I might get them all graded for keep sake. I would love to have a 56 though. I wish my dad would have kept that set. **sigh** I recently picked up a 63 Jello on COMC, just need to get around to shipping a batch. 62 and 65 are top of the list to get next.

-Some nice stuff, thanks for sharing. A while back, someone broke into our house and stole all of my cards. They didn't get a few memorabilia items, but they took a collection that was a couple of decades in the making. I thought about not continuing the collection, but after a bit of grief i jumped back in. I'm trying to focus on just a few goals, one being getting a decent copy of a Mickey Mantle card from each year, 1951-1969.

Mainly trying for the base card, i've picked up a few along the way and figured might as well post them up, scratches on the cases most of these should be in psa 4-6 range (busted most of them from graded slabs):

Keep them coming folks.

Very nice start on the rebuild! In a way I'm doing the same thing. My dad had every Topps set from 54 -80's and sold them. I'm trying to get as many Mantles from the 60's as I can. I have some of the other Mantle insert ones as well, just no scans. Like the Game & Jumbo. The Mantles are not cheap to replace. Sorry about what happened, that sucks, and is every collectors nightmare.

Cards are cards. Should we call cards from the early 90's and before "PAPER" cards?

One of my favorite cards of all time. Picked this up when I was a kid in the 80s at a local card show.

Leon,
Those candy cards are cool. What year are they from? What was the Los Angeles team called? I know the San Francisco team was the Seals. During the last Baseball strike I started getting into the Pacific Coast League-past and present.

Hey Walt
They are from 1910 and classified as E221. They are actually super rare. The purple one is the only one of that type card known in the hobby. The San Fran one has Buck Weaver (1919 Black Sox) on it. They were folded and inserted in candy bars from Bishop and Company. Here is a tin and box from the company...

That is a cool card! I wonder why some of the kids have their hands up in the air? The batter clearly has not yet hit the ball and a couple of the kids appear to be on base. Weird.

And here are my favorite vintage cards, some Mantle cards that I don't believe have made it into the thread yet:

This is the sample card that was on the Post cereal boxes (I believe). Was thinking about cutting it down to the correct size.

And my best Mantle. Any guesses on a grade if I sent it in?

The kids had to be like that, with their hands in the air, due to the way the photos were taken approximately 145 yrs ago. I don't think they had very fast shutter speed . Here is another early favorite....

No Brainer... Ditka Rookie!! Not in the best condition... but I'll upgrade it at some point. In the mean time it's still a pretty card!
