Default Uncut Mantle/Maris Life Magazine Insert PC Pickup

Wednesday night I saw this posted online by one of my LCS's and was surprised to see it still available when I emailed him after the shop closed. It's in pretty darn good shape considering. I don't think it would grade a 9 or anything, but there are no major issues other than where it's folded. Now I'm trying to figure out the best way to protect it. I'm not sure if someone makes a ticket stub screw down long enough to unfold it.

If there are no creases, can you have it professionally cut and slabbed? I know PSA does grade 1960's Post cards from cereal boxes on the regular scale with the "Hand Cut" designation. Will they grade these as well from a magazine insert? Even if they don't this piece looks like it should be folded out and professionally framed somehow. Gorgeous (and a truly, truly historic season that was made into a great movie to boot)!

I did a check, and it's weird. Some of them PSA only labels as "Authentic Hand Cut" while others get an actual grade, like this beauty: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PSA-10-MICKEY-MANTLE-1962-Post-Cereal-Gem-Mint-Low-Pop-Ad-Back-Life-Magazine-5-/321226534985?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item4aca97f049&nma=true&si=sXxaiPy9jXc0UHZVJL3LWHtQZA0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Have you considered slabbing them or are you keeping them together uncut? Also, is Dick Towles into the professional cutting of these cards?

Yeah, it was DJs. He is awesome. Always looks out for Nap stuff for me.

I'm torn on what to do with it. It would be good to get them graded, but it is more authentic to keep it whole. If I thought it would grade a 10, it would be a no brainer I guess. I've never had anything graded so I get nervous anout doing the wrong thing.

Keep uncut.

Have you checked Beckett grading? they will grade some items that are too big for PSA

Thanks for the tip. I will look into that. The best of both worlds would be to keep it intact and get it graded. At some point I want to get all my Mantles graded. :-)

Have some dies made to the exact specifications of the originals, then send them in to Beckett for grading!!

I kid...Awesome pickup. I have both of those, unattached sadly, but still great items. It would look great in a custom display I think.

Would that come back as "Machine Cut"?

Yeah, if I find something that works I'll post it.
