Default Vintage Rookies Collection

I am slowly making a rookie collection from my youth, and well before. I understand this is nothing fancy or incredibly breathtaking, just what I have so far from 1980 and before. I will update this sometime I am sure, feel free to help me find someone I am missing, or post your own pictures, thank you.

I am trying to get just 1 card of HOF, near HOF, or simply memorable players.

1954 Harvey Kuenn
1968 Nolan Ryan
1966 Don Sutton

1970 Thurman Munson

Excellent collection.
I'm doing something similar.
I've got a run of the top value Topps RC from each year from 2013 back to 1978. The newer ones are PSA 10's. I'll get the others graded at some point and upgrade where needed.

My goal is 1963. The year I was born. So I've still got Brett, Schmidt, Ryan, Seaver and Rose ahead of me- Just to name some big boys.

My goal was originally similar, going back to my birth year, then I happen to get some good quality cards from before then, so I just decided to keep going back for a while. You do have a few higher costing cards to go, patience and time is all that is needed. I wish you luck and I am sure it will work out well.

I decided to start in 1989 (rather then 2013) just because it was easier then trying to figure out how many and which cards to get. In the 80's it is usually 3-8 (rookie card regular issue Topps/Fleer/Donruss/O-Pee-Chee/Leaf/Score/Upper Deck/Bowman and traded/updated of each player), which I have almost complete. I like to have 1 of each, so for example I have from 1983 a Wade Boggs Topps, Donruss, and Fleer.

Love it. Looking at alot of those I remember the raw prices before grading. I remember when the Rickey Henderson was $200 in nmt. Amazing how much this hobby has dropped. I remember I was going to pay for my college with baseball cards lol.

Except if that card is in perfect condition. I remember not caring as a young collector about condition. I mean, I cared that it wasn't creased or had pinholes in it, but I assigned the same value to what would be a 9 today as what would be a 5.

The two regrets I have of my early collecting:

1. That I didn't care about condition (I have '48 Leaf Teddy, '72 Fisk, '60 Yaz, multiple '83 Boggs, etc, all in EX at best). I paid a lot for those cards.

2. That I sold all my Magic: the Gathering cards before high school. I was a big time nerd in middle school and had thousands and thousands of Magic cards... moxes, black lotuses, etc... the whole deal. Sold them all for beer money as a freshman in HS when I was no longer a nerd, lol. Easily would be worth $50k today. EASILY.

Anyway, sorry for the OT post.

Your rookie collection is beautiful. I would love to do the same thing one day when my kids are out of the house and my retirement is secure

Cards are cards. Should we call cards from the early 90's and before "PAPER" cards?
