Default satchel paige

I think this thread may be more appropriate here...
I've recently decided I really want a Satchel Paige card. I'm from KC and the Negro Leagues Museum Director tells the greatest stories about Paige. I mainly deal with newer product and will trade it for the Paige. Id rather deal on here than ebay because I dont trust myself to buy vintage on there because I dont know enough about it. Please post here or pm me with what you have. Not really sure what I should be expecting to spend or condition. Id appreciate any help or any Satchel stories anyone has. Thank you

I am on the same quest as you. But I am being a bit more specific. I want a 1948 Leaf Satchel Paige in a PSA 3 or better. It will probably run me about 5k so it is going to take me a long time.

I have a 1953 Topps that is chewed up. I love that card as well. I would look there if I Were you... check eBay for PSA graded cards in the lower grades. If you are patient you should be able to find a 3 for around $150 which should have decent eye appeal.

That being said, if you want to spend more, just do a little research about sold prices on eBay and start looking.

A valiant cause for sure. Good luck!

Oh, and here's my mission thread if you are interested... Flipping for a '48 Paige

Stop by and say hi.

If you want a very nice looking art card of Paige (and many other HOFers), check out the work of Edward Vela....his eBay username is "avoartcards".

For licensed cards, gotta go with the 1953 Topps.

Not really. Essentially just one... Toloteros from 1950.

But it will cost you a fortune and it wasn't even during his playing days.

There was one "card" discovered from his playing days, 1931 Harrison Studios postcard...

He's a hard get from a hobby perspective.

The closest anyone one of us will come to that Toloteros Gibson card would be the SGC encased reprint sample card created for the auction.

My brother just added a 48 Leaf Paige to his collection and was educating me on both the scarcity of the card and the legacy of Paige. I really had no idea how amazing he was. Worth a google for anyone not familiar. He was really something special.

Good luck on the hunt for a nice paige.

A Paige in this condition, graded, will set you back around $1,500.

I picked it up along with a few other cards in a private deal, so I'm into it for less than that.

If your interested in the card, PM me and we can discuss it !!

Thanks !!

That's sharp. Some day I might have to add that one too... but the Leaf is first.
