It happens where players are labeled "rookies" in multiple years, for example Dale Murphy had 2 (1977 & 1978) and Lou Piniella had 3 (1964, 1968, & 1969).

So I thought I had a pretty decent raw collection going. Got the Rose, the Seaver, etc. Most are in pretty good shape... between EX and NM or so. Most have pretty good centering. Then I saw this:

Vintage Modern and RARE Card Collection | eBay

In my best Dick Vitale voice... "Are you serious, baby?!" All the best baseball, football and basketball cards... all in what appear to be Mint condition with dead perfect centering. Wow!!

Cards are cards. Should we call cards from the early 90's and before "PAPER" cards?

Awesome collection, any reason stopping at 1980??? I really like your theme. I was thinking of having a card of every HOF'er even if it is there last issued card but know even that would be very expensive.

Love this collection. After browsing through this forum and a lot of reading, etc. I think this is the set I'd like to do. I'll probably start in the modern era just because of funds though.

I think the patience will be the hard part for me, but I think it will be more fulfilling than ripping newer stuff and hoping for hits.

Very nice idea and collection. I have quite a few of those myself. How are you tracking your list?

Orioles93 Baseball Cards - Hall of Fame Rookie Cards
How does PSA decide on which cards to use in this set?

For the majority it is just their normal rookie cards. But for some of the earlier ones, they give the option of either 1948 bowman or 1948/49 leaf because they are both considered rookies. Examples are Kiner, Paige, Kell, Doby, etc. For some of the later ones, like maddux, glavine, larkin, etc. They choose the most popular rookie for them. Some of these guys have multiple rookies such as topps, donruss, leaf, fleer, etc so they usually just pick the most popular one. The complete set composition is below. Feel free to ask me any other questions about it.

Yeah I guess I was wondering more about the later guys with multiple. Like I mentioned above this is a collection I'd like to put together, but I'll probably start with the more recent players.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it!

I just stopped at 1980 here because this is the vintage board. I actually have every HOF and every likely-HOFer RC on past 1980... those were the easy ones!

Are you also doing the PSA list? What do you think the most recent "rookie" cards will be when we start to see today's stars in the hall? Topps chrome base? Bowman prospects? Autos?

It all depends on the player and year. There is a PSA future hall of fame set as well and some fairly recent guys are on it. For example Pujols and Ichiro they used the 2001 SP Authentic cards, but for Miguel Cabrera they used 2000 Topps Chrome Traded. And for Johan Santana they used 2000 Bowmans Best. Like I said, it just depends.

Yeah I've seen that list, I was just thinking the most recent rookies, especially with the Topps licensing and the huge increase in certified autos.

Well In regards to PSA registry sets, they wont ever put auto cards on these rookie set lists. To me there is a difference between a straight rookie and an auto. I dont consider auto cards to be a players main rookie. Its kind of like a separate item. I think a lot of the recent players rookies will be either topps chrome, topps chrome traded, bowmans best, or bowman chrome. SP Authentic rookies are popular to.
