New collector from Texas
Hey all, name is Chris, I'm a medic in the Army and have been for 9 years. As a kid my brother and I collected baseball and basketball cards but eventually stopped. At the age of 27 (6 years ago) my brother was diagnosed with Leukemia and sadly, he died October 29, 2011. My brother had multiple other medical problems and he and his wife had been living with me and my family for the last 2 years. Over the last 8 months or so of his life, the sports card bug bit my brother again and he started up another collection. It wasn't until he passed that I was going through his stuff and the interest was sparked again. Needless to say I have placed all his stuff in order and am now collecting/buying myself. I am almost 30 and have also started buying packs and boxes for my 2 year old now in hopes that when he gets older we can open all the stuff together. My older brother also left behind about 7 hobby boxes of cards that he never got around to opening that have been placed in the same collection for my son.
I enjoy the hobby once again but wish I would've noticed it alittle sooner so that my brother and I could've opened packs together. Either way, that's my story and it's good to find an active forum of this caliber. I look forward to posting my breaks and getting my questions answered as well.
My first question is this: My brother had been somewhat active in the diamond anniversary giveaway and have about 30 rings. After buying my own packs I am up to 40. I need 5 more to get the special set and have been trading my duplicates but my ring total never goes up. Is buying more packs for the diamond giveaway codes the only way to hit 45 so that I can get the set?
Thank in advance,
Chris Torres
