Auction Buzz: Some final-day history brewing over at Goldin

Update: The above card sold for $1.84 million when the auction ended -- the buyer being a direct-mail company's CEO.

The action is picking up as the clock is winding down for the finale tonight at Goldin Auctions with this 2003-04 Exquisite Collection LeBron James card already topping the $1-million mark with its premium.

There's about nine hours to go before the auction might end with more bids beyond the current 24, but even the current mark would make it the most-expensive basketball card ever sold as well as the priciest modern card in any sport, topping past $900,000-plus sales of key Mike Trout autos via Goldin.

The Runnemede, N.J.-based auction house has a number of other big-ticket memorabilia pieces and interesting items in its current auction. (Don't believe me? Hit that link and look at the first six items -- they're huge and don't make my list this time.)

Keep reading for a deeper look at a few more items ending tonight.

NEWER GEM
The Item: LeBron James 2014-15 Panini National Treasures Colossal Logoman card (2/3) (BGS 9)
The Price: $19,000 after 10 bids
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one isn't shown in its slab, but it's a big deal among the newer cards in the auction, though nine other James cards actually have higher prices on them right now. What makes this one interesting beyond its game-used logo on the front? Well, its serial-number might offer some extra appeal for a diehard No. 23 fan out there.

BLACK-SLAB PREMIUM
The Item: Mike Trout 2011 Topps Update Rookie Card (BGS 10 Black)
The Price: $28,000 after 11 bids
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Generally speaking, this is not a rare card -- you could have found it in packs at Target and Walmart in bulk back in the day (even Buzz did) -- but it's an in-demand card as the big iconic Rookie Card to own and this one is a perfect specimen according to a grader at BGS. Nearly 5,900 copies of this have been graded but only 26 have come back with this key mark. Could it go higher than its current bid? We'll see.

REMEMBER ME?
The Item: Michael Jordan autographed 1991 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Holographic issue (BAS)
The Price: $800 after five bids
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: There are a ton of huge Jordan pieces in this big sale both for cardboard and memorabilia -- hit that link up top -- but this one struck me as interesting in a couple ways. One, this is a cover that many people should remember from the time -- it's way different from all of his other countless appearances -- and, two, Jordan's relationship with SI soured after its "Bag it, Michael" cover during his Birmingham Barons years. (Does he even sign SI covers now?) This one comes in an oddly oversized display (this is cropped down to just the main opening) but it's a solid piece without a huge price (for now).

ABSOLUTELY OVERLOOKED
The Item: Mike Trout 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Yellow Printing Plate Autograph (1/1)
The Price: $6,500 after 15 bids
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: With Refractor versions of this card fetching six-figures and previously setting all-time sales records for modern cards, it's easy to say that this one is, despite its current price, overlooked and undervalued in this sale (so far). As I type this, an Orange Refractor (/25) is at $190,000 in this same sale and two other colors are high-dollar cards, too. This one is rarer than all of them, though its sticker auto (used on plates) isn't quite as appealing. Despite that, it's still a huge card that should make some moves before this one is done.

AS BIG AS IT GETS
The Item: Aaron Judge 2013 Bowman Chrome Draft Superfractor Autograph (1/1) (BGS 9.5/10)
The Price: $76,000 after 13 bids
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: In past years, a card like this one would be an auction headliner as its the best card for the Yankees slugger's debut on a Bowman Chrome auto. That's not a shabby price tag by any means -- and it could grow tonight -- but the demand for him might have been more intense not that long ago. With a new MLB season nearly upon us, though, recent-year dominators' key cards should be watched closely.
